Teenagers are among the weirdest, and most annoying of all people. I know. I am one. The biggest thing about them that gets on my nerves is the fact that the suicide rate is the highest among us. Teens can't handle all the bad stuff that happens to them so they kill themself. Well...it kinda makes sense. No not really. My girlfriend dumped me, how can I go on? I failed the history final. Good bye cruel world. My pop-tart is slighty more burnt on this side that that side. I can't possibly take a world where pop-tarts don't toast evenly. Give me a break. So why do we constantly kill ourselves even though nothing real serious is wrong. I have two theories. Number 1: we're lazy. When something goes wrong we're too lazy to want to deal with it and thus, BANG! Number 2: respnsibility is shoved on us too fast. From birth until the preteen years, our lives are carefree and happy. We're aware of things like war, death, and responsibility, but we know that the adults will have to work on that stuff. Then, around age 12, we start to realize all the horrible things in the world. Earth becomes a darker place, and suddenly our turn to face these problems seems a lot closer than it did last year. However after the teen years we calm down and accept our role as keepers of the world. One thing that makes me dislike my kind is the shunning of the people who brought us into the world. At age eleven we couldn't get enough of them, but come the adolescent years and we don't want to see them. I have nothing wrong with my parents. They're actually very fun to hand around, and I have no problem being seem with them in public. I don't get why it's all of a sudden wrong to be seen with them. It didn't bother you when you were little. Why should it bother you now? The gradual step away from the legal guardians moves us into another area: overwhelming respect for our peers. We do what they do. We dress how they dress. We talk how they talk. You see where I'm going here. However there are two things I absolutely love about this time of my life. Number 1: unlimited metabolism. I can eat what I want, when I want, who I want and not gain an ounce. Number 2: As a teenager, you can make anything into a blast. I remember countless times when I've turned something as simple as flicking a piece of lint around into a full blown contest with rules and points. Ever wonder how basketball go started? It started with a teenager bouncing a ball mindlessly up and down. His friends come over and they began bouncing it with him. Then one friend bets him that he can't throw it into the nearby trash can. He does and makes it. He does it a second time and his friend blocks it. Oh yeah it's go time. So then he and his friend try to block each others atempts to make a basket. Then the other friends join in on either side. 5 on 5. They decide to raise the goals to make it more challenging. Soon it has evolved into a frenzy of dribbling, passing, and shooting. Each time a goal is made someone thinks up another rule to make it more intreresting and BAM... basketball is born from a lone teenager bouncing a ball. We're not exactly the brightest of organisms on this planet, but we teens are a very interesting brand of weird that not even I will be able to comprehend. |
