Percentile Table for Miscast Spells

Here's a simple little table GM's can roll on if they want to randomly determine the result when a mage miscasts a spell. Most of the ideas are based on suggestions found on pgs. 42-44 of Through the Glass Darkly. Just grab two different 10 siders and you're ready to rock.

Miscast Spell Percentile Table

01-10 Reduced potency.

11-20 Reduced or Increased Range.

21-30 Reduced or Expanded Duration.

31-40 Spell's effects are unusually conspicuous or subtle.

41-50 Increased potency.

51-55 Spells gains a mind of its own. It is now sentient.

56-60 Native creatures and/or powers in the area gain control of the spell.

61-65 Spell changes into a different spell. Either randomly chosen or by the GM.

66-70 Spell strikes the wrong target by going the opposite way, up, down, left, or right from the caster's position.

71-75 The caster instantly gains back the PPE spent on the spell plus 2d6 Extra.

76-80 In addition to the PPE cost to cast the spell, 2d6 Extra PPE is drawn out of the caster that immediately dissipates.

81-83 The caster is permanently altered, either disfigured/harmed or benefited in some significant way. This change should be based around the nature of the spell that was being cast.

84-86 The caster either takes 2d6 damage or is healed of 2d6 damage.

87-89 A minor supernatural creature is attracted to the area/caster. (Annoying or helpful)

90-92 A major supernatural creature is attracted to the area/caster. (Monstrous and deadly or benign and favorable.)

93-95 Spell's effect(s) follow the character around for minutes, hours, days, months, or years. They intermittently appear on objects and people around the caster.

96-97 Spell affects the caster instead of target.

98-99 PPE flows around the caster for minutes, hours, days, months, or years. This PPE pool is equal to the amount that was spent on the original spell that caused its creation. Seemingly at random, it casts spells of an equal to or lesser value than its PPE rating. This PPE recovers at the standard rate.

100 A Dramatic Disturbance occurs. The spell crosses wires with a major ley line and shorts out the magic power network of ley lines for the entire tri-state area. A nexus point is created right on top of the caster. A super rift opens. The Four Horseman of the Apocalypse are released onto Nightspawn Earth. Dark Day 2? Go nuts with this one.
