The Heart-throb of Azon

"The beautiful one has come..."-Jaquin

The wind tore threw the trees at a phenomenal speed. Howling angrily as it passed by the new saplings of the forest and it that snapped them in half with its over whelming power. It lashed out at the creatures of the forest and stung them with a coldness unknown to most things, a coldness so strong it made ice look room temperature. Howling angrily as it passed by the holes and burrows of some creatures, the places it could not reach, and whistling merrily as it passed by birds and beasts that could not find shelter in time. It took the lives of some of those helpless creatures with it's terrible sting, and overpowering cold. All of its powers were released onto those poor little creatures, and none of them, who survived would ever understand why. A storm was coming... But not just and ordinary storm...

A tiny girl stood at the forest's edge crying out to someone and holing out her hands. She was wearing something of elfish sort, and had her white-blue hair tied back into a ponytail. She held out her hands and looked towards a man and women who where mounted on a horse running away, away from her. The girl whipped her tear soaked face, and tried to understand why her parents had left her there. And why she would never see them again. And all the while as she stood there and sobbed, the wind howled fiercely and from within the clouds lighting crashed and rain poured down. It's really quite simple why they left her, but she could never have imagined...

That she was controlling the storm....

She finally stopped sobbing and realized she was alone, with only the animals of the forest, and the howling wind. She sat watching the storm for a while with amusement trying to predict where lighting would strike next, she was only about 6 and didn't bother to wonder why she was right every time. It became sort of a game to her, pick out a spot then watch the lighting fry it. Eventually after hours of goofing off, she realized that her mom and dad weren't coming back, and began to sob horribly again. The rain poured down even harder and lighting flickered down from the clouds splitting a tree or two in half.

The girl looked up from her sobbing and saw a large blue and white cat looking thing. It had a shabby white mane and bright blue eyes while the majority of it's body was covered in blue sliver fur. Its four paws were equipped with long deadly retractable claws and they shown sliver white. It's long tail was tipped in the same white fur as it's mane and the creature was staring strait at the girl. She stopped crying and looked at it, bedazzled by it's peculiar look.

Why are you crying little one?A voice questioned the girl inside her head. She looked around wondering where it had come from. Yes I'm talking to you....are you alone? The mysterious voice asked again.

The girl looked at the funny furry creature and nodded figuring rightly, that it was the owner of the voice. "Mommy and daddy left me here..." She sobbed getting up and staring at the creature. "What kind of kitty are you?" she asked in bewilderment.

First of all, I'm not a kitty. I'm a ligon. Second, why on earth would your mother and father leave you? The ligon asked walking slowly up to the girl and sitting by her. He noticed that the storm was dwindling ant coming to an end and wondered vaguely why.

"What is a ligon?" she asked staring at his white blue fur. She laid a hand on his back and stroked his fur with tenderness. "He he your soft..."

A ligon is a cross between a lion and a firelizard... He said looking at her with his big sparkly blue eyes. I am called Klais... He announced with pride. The son of Akkeneton, the first, but you would not understand that I guess little one, for you are only young.

The girl continued to pet the ligon's ultra soft fur and smiled. "My name is Vega, Klais, the daughter of mommy and daddy.." she said giggling. At that point the storm had dwindled away and all that was left was a slightly blowing wind.

We better find you some place to sleep...Then in the morning we can talk to Sargon about finding you a temporary home...He stood up suddenly, as if struck by and idea. Or maybe I can stay with you there...you don't seem to be a problem...

****

Sargon...i found her what was I 'suppose to do leave her there to die? Klais snarled angrily at the Sargon, a man of tall stature with eerie yellow eyes. He was watching young Vega very quietly, for he knew her secret by now, though he hadn't figured out she didn't know that she had it yet.

"Listen Klais..." Sargon said pulling the blue white ligon away from the child. "Remember the storm last night? It was caused by her, she controls the weather with her moods, she she's happy right now, so it's sunny. If she was to get angry or cry, by the devil we could find ourselves at the heart of a hurricane!" Sargon said eyeing the girl who was patiently waiting for Klais to return.

I can keep her safe! So she will never be unhappy and if she is we could all comfort her! Look she is elfish blood, and we have Jaquin and all of them at Forest's edge, she certainly won't be lonely! Klais pleaded looking up at Sargon with hopeful eyes.

"Fine then, she is under you and Jaquin's command and she is your responsibly Klais, don't fail me." He said turning to walk away. "That means she is your bond..." He said quietly as he exited the room.

I won't fail you Sargon...I will watch over Vega... Klais said walking over to Jaquin and smiling cat-like at the little white haired girl atop the mighty tiger striped Jangelith.

*****8 winters later*****

Vega sat cross legged eyeing the people at Azon. Her long blue white hair blew freely in the wind and it had many little braids and a few sliver beads entangled in it. It was kept out of her well proportioned face by a shinny blue headband. On her left ear dangled seven sliver earrings on her right dangled four. She was clad in a most unusual outfit, like a piece of cloth thrown together and hoped to stay, but she liked it that way, it was long and kept her cool because of it's fine silken texture and plus it want' too conservative. The warm sun had given her a nice golden brown tan which made her eyes and hair look even more awkward than normal, but she liked the attention and was known as 'Azon's heart throb'. She and Akinta were about the prettiest girls in the Sanrix, but every guy knew not to even get close to Akinta, for Sargon would personally rip them apart for messing with his daughter. That kept Jaquin and Klais pretty busy fighting off the boys that were constantly staring at Vega...

"Klais?" she called seeing her faithful ligon walking in with a rather strange person, she had not seen him before. The ligon looked up and smiled cat-likely at her.

My dear Vega!He said prancing up to her. The strange person turned out to be Kurt the rider of a rather arrogant Starry blue. But he was in his demon form and looked a bit different than the last time Vega had set eyes on him.

"Hullo!" Kurt said nodding respectfully at her. "Jaquin tells me you have grown into a fine young woman and he didn't lie..." kurt said eyeing her rather strangely.

Vega twisted her hip to one side and glared at him. "He is one of my best friends..." Vega replied cockily. "He should know what I look like..."

Well yes he should but come now! Let's eat there is much celebrating to do toady! Klais said sensing the tension between the two people. He never was one much for fights.

Vega sighed and nodded to Klais. "Ok...but may I ask what are we celebrating about?" Vega said half wondering half wanting just to party. She liked parties, plenty of food, and wine, and fun...

Kurt glanced at Klais out of the corner of his eye and grinned showing his fangs. "I dunno...but maybe we should find out..." He said rather cornily. Vega smiled and decided to play along with whatever game they where up to.

"Ok fine by me..." She said taking Kurt's arm and letting him lead her off to...where ever.

***

So she sat again boredly wondering what the boys where up to, they where in a little circle talking in hushed voices and playing with something in there hands. She twiddled with her ankle bracelets and waited for them to hopefully, come over and do what they wanted to.

"Vega?" Jaquin asked coming up and sitting besides her. He handed her a small neatly wrapped package. She smiled and took it from him wondering what was inside.

"What's the occasion?" she asked pulling on one of the little blue ribbons that was neatly tied on it.

"Don't you know?" Jaquin asked looking at her with puzzled eyes. She shook her head. "It's been eight years exactly since Klais found you out in the wild." He said slightly wondering why she hadn't remembered.

"Oh yeah..." she said remembering the night when she had been abandoned. She opened up the little package and found that inside, there was a small necklace with a lighting bolt on it. It was blue and shinny and had a sapphire in the middle of it. It had words engraved in the elfish language and Vega looked at it wondering what it said. "I can't read this, it is too curvy..." she said handing it to Jaquin.

He smiled and looked it over. "It says: Ar nai namārie varda..." He said reading it in it's elfish form. Kurt and one of the other guys cocked their eyebrows at Jaquin. But Vega only smiled and hugged Jaquin tightly.

"thank you Jaquin..." she said her eyes welling up with tears. "I have never received a true 'birthday' gift..." she muttered and put the necklace on. It looked very nice on her well tanned skin.

Kurt leaned over to Jaquin and muttered. "What did it say?" Jaquin only smiled and shook his head.

"To the beautiful one..."He whispered finally after Kurt elbowed him in the ribs, and it was true Vega was quite beautiful. And everyone knew it well....

***

Lighting crashed outside and the wind once again howled angrily and rushed threw the trees, tearing at their branches. Vega ran from him screeching and yelling in her own tongue. But he followed her, and surely he was drunk, she smelt it in his breathe and the way his eyes rolled back in his head...

"Yestoro, es coia utor! " she muttered to herself running past the kitchens and trying to find Jaquin or at least Klais, they could protect her from this maniac. She didn't even know him, and she was glad. He didn't seem to nice of a fellow. This was why she didn't like gathers.

The wind whipped at her face and rain began to pour down from the skies. Vega stumbled and tripped over a fallen log. She ducked down and hoped he wouldn't see her, hoped he wouldn't find her.

"By the Gods, where are you Klais?" She asked through her sobs. Her ankle hurt very badly and she only hoped it wasn't broken, or injured to badly. But he spotted her and hollered something very interoperate at her. He was coming her way, and Vega was scared, he was drunk and his drunkenness was making him a little crazy...

She cowered down underneath the fallen tree and hopped that the rain would give her a little cover, but still he staggered on slowly and surely towards her. "Hey baby..." He said leaning over the log and taking a sip of some foul wine. "Wanna see what-" He was cut off by a loud 'thunk' as Vega punched him in the head.

"Relio un gous ete loikis!" she screeched at him. And punched him in the stomach. He glared at her and pulled from his pocket a large sliver knife. She screamed and scampered away from him, still unable to use her leg, it felt broken.

He said again something not worth repeating and waved the knife in her face. She cowered and wondered if she'd ever make it out of his alive. And when all seemed lost she heard an ear splitting growl and turned to see Klais atop a fallen tree just besides her snarling and flexing his muscles. Drool hung from his jaws, where rows of white razor sharp teeth shown white in the faint moonlight. His long black claws glittered dangerously and his fur stood on end, this is why you don't make ligons angry.

"Klais!" Vega said feeling now a bit more hopeful. The guy who was harassing her stopped to look at the threatening ligon and laughed.

"Nice kitty you got there honey..." He said taking another sip of the stinking wine he had. He wiped his mouth with his sleeve and waved the knife In front of the 'kitties' mouth.

Klais snarled and leapt onto him. He slashed madly at the man's throat and bit down hard on his hand, causing him to drop the knife. Vega ran over and picked it up, not wanting him to get hold of it again. The man wasn't going o sit there and be throttled however, and he threw a few good punches at Klais each time the ligon barely got away with what would turn into a bruise.

Holding him down with all four paws, Klais looked to Vega and grinned cat like. Hullo! he said in her mind. What a fool this well fool is! He said and got off the man who they thought had passed out.

"Oh Klais!" Vega said and hugged him around the neck tightly. "I thought for sure you wouldn't come!"

Just as Vega began to feel safe the man rouse and grabbed for the knife. He cam up behind Klais and stabbed him in the back. He shrieked with pain and fell over, to the ground whimpering. Vega screamed;" You jack ass!" and lunged at him. He held her back and laughed at her weak attempt. Vega's eyes sparked with lighting as she looked upon the face of the man. If Klais died...she kicked him very hard where it counted and pushed him to the ground. Then she screamed as loud as she could for help and found that Kurt, Sargon, and Jaquin where already coming to the rescue, thy had heard her scream...

It would storm very much that night and the following day...

***

"Is he going to be ok?" Vega asked Jaquin wiping her tear stained face. She buried her face in his shoulder and sobbed some more, not wanting to look. Klais had been in critical condition for over 5 hours.

"I honestly dunno Vega I honestly don't..." He said wrapping one arm around her and handing her a tissue.

"He only wanted to save me..." She muttered taking the tissue and blowing her nose. "I mean that stupid guy..."

Jaquin patted her lovingly on the back. "I know I know, that guy was beyond drunk ..." He glanced sideways at Kurt who was eyeing him jealously. "I mean you should have seen him after Jangelith and Phantom got through with him, he was really scared. But then good `ol Bolton wanted to give him a scare..." Jaquin laughed. "He'll never be coming back..."

Vega stopped sobbing a bit and giggled, blowing her nose again in the tissue. She hugged Jaquin tighter and looked into the room where Klais lay, a medium sized hospital room. "If i wouldn't have dropped that knife..." she said.

Jaquin laughed. "and I would have been right behind you with a flame thrower to melt his body, so they couldn't identify the corpse..."

Vega cracked up with little giggles. "That's why we love you Jaquin..." she said between giggles. "always making humor in times of such importance..."

Kurt was now besides the both of them looking into the operating room. He smiled cockily leaned over to Jaquin and whispered rather loudly; "But you love her for-" Jaquin cut him off by elbowing him in the side.

Vega smiled, Kurt she had known for a long time always liked her and well she hoped that Jaquin did...

Sargon came walking out of the room with a grim look on his face and Vega's momentary happiness vanished. "He wants to talk to Vega..." He said then smiled really big; "He's getting better..."

Vega smiled and hopped up and down. She grabbed at Jaquin's arm and drug him into the room. She didn't catch Jaquin sticking his tongue out at Kurt as sort of a victory thing though, other wise she would have figured out the rivalry between the two.

Vega walked up to Klais' bed and sat down on the chair next to him. He was laying on his side with a large white bandage on his left shoulder where he had been stabbed. "Klais?" Vega asked gently laying a hand on his ultra soft fur.

Vega.. He whispered into her mind and tried meekly to roll over. How goes it outside of this retched hospital?

"It is fine Klais just fine, but the sooner you let that heal the sooner you get out of here. It's not to bad..." She turned to Jaquin and a thought popped into her mind. "Plenty of boys to keep me busy..."

Jaquin choked on whatever he was eating and looked down at her. She pretended to be serious and tried very hard to hold back her laughter. Aw well Vega, everyone knows your beautiful. Then he said in a more secret voice only to Vega; You only need to men in your life, me...and Jaquin...

"Klais!" Vega said glancing up at Jaquin and wondering what he meant, he didn't like her, he only wanted to protect her. "That's not even funny!"

I call it how I see it. You two would go good together and plus you know you like him... Klais said swishing his tail and cackling ligon like. It was a strange half purr half choke sort of sound.

"Is he alright?" Jaquin asked Vega. "Maybe we should leave now, he needs his rest..." Jaquin said but the ligon only cackled louder. The storm that had been unleashing it's wrath for the past 6 or 7 hours suddenly die down and was gone...

**

"you know this is going to sound really stupid but sometimes I feel I can control the weather.." Vega said as she and Jaquin sat up in Janqelith's lair, it was high up and secluded just the way the large tiger strip liked it.

Jaquin smiled, he knew the day would come when they'd have to tell her, or at least she'd figure it out. He just felt honored to be the one to tell her that she had the power to creature and control storms. He always thought Kurt would eventually tell her and win her over... "Vega..." He said twiddling with one of his necklaces. "There's something I've been meaning to talk to you about.."

Vega smiled. What? Oh dear, is he going to tell me he likes me? Vega wondered silently but kept her thoughts to herself. "Ok. What?" she asked innocently.

"Well you see way back when, when you first came here. See there was this horrible storm and rain and everything. And as far as I can remember Klais found you there and brought you back. Then weird stuff started to happen, every time you would be angry sad or feeling a really strong emotion it would start to rain and storm and stuff." He paused and looked into Vega's eyes. "Vega, you can control the weather..."

Vega sat there completely stunned she had always thought she could predict, but control? She glanced outside at the pouring rain and concentrated on one particular tree. BOOM! Lighting cracked it in half. "Oh my..." she said feeling light headed. "I did that?" she asked half laughing and passed out falling over into Jangelith.

Well you better carry her back Romeo, you've caused enough damage for today...

"Not even funny Jangelith like I'd ever even have a chance..." Jaquin said picking Vega up. she pretended not to hear those two last sentences...

***

Vega not sat alone waiting for Sargon to come back, he was talking to her about controlling her powers. Bolton was there keeping her company until he returned form wherever he went to. Bolton's mighty bronze and black hide shimmered in the pale moonlight and his eyes stood out like a sore thumb.

Vega... Bolton's deep proud voice boomed into Vega's head. He sat there, swishing his tail from side to side and looking at her with his sparkling white-blue eyes. I think you should impress...

Vega looked at Bolton wondering if he was serious. "Bolton, that's not even funny. Me ride a dragon? No way hon. That's for people like Sargon, and Jaquin..." she said patting him on the tail.

People like Sargon and Jaquin huh? People like Kat, and Kurt too. What type of people would that be? He asked watching her intently.

"Miza once told me, and I trust he since she's a search, that people who posses a certain quality can ride dragons. A certain air, that dragons sense from a person. If you don't have that you're not compatible..." She said. "Am I making sense?" She added.

Bolton made no response but only rose to his feet and stretched his back. He titled his head up and kind of listened to something Vega couldn't here. Then he sat back down ad curled his tail around her. You mean like the presence we sense in you and the air that seems to float with you...

Vega stared at him. "I couldn't possibly, no dragon would want me..." She said shaking her head.

No dragon would want Jaquin, either.... He said kindly and rather softly. Vega raised one eyebrow and looked suspiciously at Bolton.

See Jaquin is as we call him 'the rebel elf'. He never fit in at the orphanage that he was obliged to stay at and everyone thought he was different. Vega, he basically had no friends growing up. Then around oh...i think his 12 winter he ran away from everything thinking he could end his problems with death. He tried to commit suicide. Bolton paused looking at Vega's shocked face.

But he continued knowing that she should know the truth. He went to forest's edge where the great lake is and was about to jump in when he was stopped by a particularly arrogant dragon, Phantom. Kurt was close behind and had know about Jaquin for quite sometime and was trying to find him to bring him to Sanrix Azon, so he could impress.

That is when he met Jangelith, the first to hatch out of the 40 of us. I being the last... Bolton made a noise in his throat, that sounded if he as trying to clear it and continued. See Jangelith was one of the 20 off-beat dragons. Phantom, him and me where the three at Azon today. The rest we haven't heard from in a long time, but Jangelith really scared the queens. he cackled dragon-like.

See Azon used to be run by `ol Sargon's father's best buddy, who was somewhat of a perfectionest. Always 'Blues, greens, browns, bronzes and golds, no others bad!' he used to say and most of the off-beats would be shunned. He was also the last to keep the 'perfect pernese' bloodline alive. Most of the other sanrixes had greatly improved the dragons. But then along came Jaquin, and Sargon...

Vega sighed, she had known nothing of the history of Jangelith and Jaquin expect for his past at Azon. But she preferred to know it, and felt better knowing it. This way there where no secrets between them. He kept her secret she'd keep his... "thank you for telling me Bolton, and thank the gods for Kurt." She smiled and rubbed Bolton behind the ears. "I will go and impress if I can or if I'm wanted. But where?"

Aw...only one place I can think of... Bolton said. I think they'd like you at the Warren's rave....

Background, buttons, and art made by me!

Vega had grown desperately bored of the Warren, it was plain and dull compared to the island that the large Sanrix Azon was located on. She had somehow managed to cope though seeing that they're where plenty of hott guys around to catch her eye. And more of their eyes to catch her.

Just when she though all hope was lost and she's be here forever, Mystic called all the candidates to the stands. Vega grinned, hoping that Sargon had brought Jaquin along, you know just for fun. It was a rave and they where both the youngest people at Azon, besides Akinta and Sky who wouldn't go willing into a party.

2/3 of the way through the hatch, Vega was beginning to loose hope, what if this as the wrong clutch? What if she was not meant to be here? What if Ja-

Her eyes caught a stunning storm colored dragoness all alone with her unhatched siblings. Her eyes looked through people shyly until they met, Vega's. It was hard to tell which of the two females was more beautiful, dragon or elevn. She smiled draconically and bounded up to Vega her liquid blue eyes shinning hopefully. Vega smiled at the little one and scooped her into her arms. She glanced to where Sargon was sitting, and next to him was Jaquin, she felt her heart skip a beat. This was odd it had never done this before. "Her name's Risientith."

Sargon smiled Kindly, and Jaquin smirked. Somewhere off in the distance she heard Jangeltih's booming voice fill the air with cackles, she too could now understand what it was like to have a dragon. You lie him Vega.. A tiny elegant voice said politely into Vega's head. She glanced down at the dragoness who looked just as smug as the jewelry addicted elf.

"Excuse me?" She said though she knew whole-heartedly what the tiny storm dragon meant. Mystic would alter inform Vega that this little beauty could call storms at her whim, unlike Vega's whose powers where limited by emotions.

You like Jaquin. I know you do, quit trying to hide it.. The dragoness said sweetly her blue eyes looking up at her rider with absolute love. And you will love me too Vega?

"Of course Risi, or course you are as lovely as me and us heart-throbs should stick together.." Vega's thick heavily accented voice said quietly stroking the dragon's small head.

***

Vega...i do beileve that i am old enough to fly. Risi's sweet voice rang quickly inot the elven maiden's head, taking her by surprise. She glanced up from what she was doing with an odd expression on her face.

"You mean like.." Vega the strom bringer swallowed hard. "A mating flgiht?" the dragon nodded her indaigo blue head, the twin silver horns bobbing up and down. "No...you can't your still so little.." Vega whined standing up and coming to stand besides the dragoness who was staring out into the distance of the silver sea, just to the right of Sanrix Azon.

I'm not little anymore Vega. Look at me. the dragoness said nudging her rider with her head, green eyes pleading. Vega sighed and stepped back to take it all in. She was right, she was bigger. Her indaigo coat was still the same beautiful color, and the lightning pattern still flcikered in her wings sails that atttached ot her front arms, the mark of a hathinian. And she seemed to glow from somewhere deep inside.

"Fine. you are bigger, but Risientith, what palce would except me adn you?" The elf said, in her heavlily accented voice. "I mean, you can call storms at your whim, but me...well with all those weird feelings you get when your dragon finds a mate.."

so it will be a bit rainy.. Risi said a draconic smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. I'm sure whatever male decides to chase me can deal with the rain or i'll burn him into the ground. She said smoke rising form her nostrils. Taht was anotehr wodnerful thing about hathinains, breath weapons. Ans Risi's just happened to be silver fire, a trait that wonderfully complimented her abilitly to call storms.

"Ah...i don't think you'll lay a hand on Jangelith." The familiar voice of Jaquin danced into Vega's head. she turned to see him walking up to her, his huge orange-black dragon not to far behind. Good thing they were standing on the beach, Jangelith could fit on the beach.

Jangelith?Risientith inquired. I think not! that big brute isn't worth my time!

As Jaquin slid his tatooed arms around Vega's waist she felt her heart stop. "You...you don't like Jangelith?" she asked. In her head she ahd it all worked out, her and Jaquin, Risi and Jangel. It was perfect.

Of course not! Jangelith laughed his voice booming merrily into Vega's head. No matter how freakishly freaky this huge-striped dragon looked, he was still as innocent as a child. She's about to rise Vega. Even golds would turn down their favored bronzes when they're at this stage.

Risi's eyes narrowed dangerously. You big stupid lug! Get off of MY beach, or i'll toast your big giddy butt! She yellled cahsing after him. It was quite a site, a meduim sized indaigo purple chaisng after a very large tiger striped orange.

"And i thought, I had problems!" Jaquin laughed from behind Vega. "Yesh....where do you figure she'll want to go?"

Vega smiled to herself. "Oh i don't know... But i'm certainly not going to let her leave Rayllom, those children of hers might want bonders from Tris'hath, but i want her to stay close to home."

Jaquin smiled. "Um...you could ask Sargon." he wicned. "But i'm pretty sure he won't like it, he's been waiting forever for Paianith to rise..."

"Paianith will wait, plus Jangelith's overdue to catcha female." Vega responded poking Jaquin in the ribs. "adn i think your overdue for a girlfriend."

"Is that so?"

"Yes it is."
