Stuff That Makes You Rub Your Chin and Go, "Hmm..."
~Just to warn you, not all of these are too original, or good. I just basically put down everything I found odd or funny, which is quite a bit. And I've spent lots of time on these thinking them up and recording them, so if you'd like to use them on your site, please ask first. I'll more than likely say yes, but still, just ask. Thanks!~
~Now, without further ado, there they are. Enjoy!~

Why would Jack shave at the beginning? There was nothing to shave on his face.

They just put their clothes on over their pajamas. The strike happened in the summer, so that would get pretty hot

You know when Racetrack said, "that's my cigar" at the beginning and took it back? Okay, after that he was really protective of it, then when he was combing his hair he set it down and left it there.

You'd think that no matter how slow the news was, they'd be able to come up with a better headline
than, "Trolley Strike Drags On For Third Week."

They do their pelvic thrust things right in front of the nuns.

You can see that kid lip-synching behind Kid Blink when they're getting breakfast from the nuns.

Jack looks really bored for the whole scene with the nuns.

If you have the DVD and put on the sing-along feature, it says that Patrick's mother's line is "mother
papers" instead of "mother loves you."

When Racetrack says, "Dear me, what is that unpleasant aroma?" Snipeshooter sniffs his armpit. I
know it's not a mistake or anything, it's just kinda funny.

When Jack takes Morris's hat and starts to run away, the next time it shows Morris it's on his head.

The whole time Jack's fighting the Delancey's, he never actually touches them once.

Why is "perusing the merchandise" funny?

If Racetrack needed Weasel to spot him 50 papes, how could he borrow Jack the money to buy David 50 more?

The stack of papers David hands back to Jack is smaller than the one he keeps when he's trying to give back the 50 papers.

The stacks of papers are really small. They must be pretty thin, because a stack of 10 papers from my little North Dakota town is about the same size as Jack's 100-paper stack.

They never wipe the spit of their hands after the spit-shakes. It's not the spit shake that's gross, but why would they want to walk around with a handful of spit afterwards?

I've seen on other sites before that the words behind the magnifying glass don't match up with what Pulitzer's reading out loud, but it's just the angles of the camera that make it appear that way. Did you guys really think Robert Duvall was that stupid to hold the magnifying glass that far off?

The newsies don't make a deafening noise. You can barely hear it. And wouldn't Pulitzer be used to hearing that every day?

Before Snyder started chasing Jack, he pointed him out to the policeman but the policeman didn't do anything about it.

You'd think Snyder, a grown man, would be able to keep up with Les, a 10-year-old.

Wouldn't Medda recognize Jack before he was two feet away from her?

Les's fake cough isn't very convincing.

It was morning when Jack, David, and Les went into Medda's, and they still had a bunch of papers. Then when they left, it was dark out and they didn't have any papers left. Where did the papers go? Also, time went by really fast during Medda's 30-second song, and they got a lot of money for papers they didn't sell.

Les is pretending to smoke his licorice when they sit down and Jack's smoking outside of Medda's.

Les is full of energy the entire day, then when something exciting happens he just tips over and falls asleep.

Half of they money isn't Jack's like David said, 60% is.

Jack and David never did split up the money.

Why does Les sleep in the kitchen when Sarah and David have their own room?

When David introduced Jack and Sarah, why didn't they at least say, "hi"?

When Jack gets his extra soup, he never eats any of it, and then when they're passing out the cake it's not on the table anymore.

It was storming during supper, and when Jack's singing Santa Fe, he kicks up dust

Wouldn't it be really funny to look out your window one night and see someone dancing like Jack out in the middle of the street like he does in Santa Fe?

Jack's hat suddenly appears on his head when they change camera angles when he's riding the horse in Santa Fe.

Oscar is really bad at mocking Kid Blink.

If none of the newsies were buying papers, why would Mush say, "Let's get our lousy papes while they still got some."? Where would the papers be going?

Where did the paper that Jack ripped up at the beginning of The World Will Know come from if no one bought papers?

Where are these kids getting all those sticks? -From my cousin Furg

Why would they shut the gates to the distribution place? What if Race and Kid Blink were going to buy papers? I know they weren't, but the people who shut it couldn't have.

They're way too obvious about not wanting to go to Brooklyn; they're like hiding behind each other.

Isn't there something fishy about this: "What's going on here?" "We're bringing our demands to Pulitzer." "What demands?" "The newsies' demands." Wouldn't it be obvious that they were newsies if they ripped up a few papers and were writing strike on the headline board? And if they were newsies, what other demands would they have?

Isn't it obvious that Jack was the leader? Jack was the one leading the song, writing 'Strike' on the board, and going to Pulitzer.

Would you be intimidated if someone was LOOKING UP at you while going, "yeah, yeah?" (Spot and David)

When all of them are saying that maybe they shouldn't have the strike anymore, Jack gets mad, and right before David starts singing, he goes, "Hey, Crutchy." and Crutchy goes "Hey, Jack." Why's that?

You can from the way Mush is in the air that he's not going to land on his feet during one of the jumps in Seize the Day, you can also hear him yell.

When that guy bends down to pick up his papers that Jack punches to the ground, does he ever come back up?

The people coming out of the refuge gates would have noticed Jack and David before they ran to the side.

It would REALLY HURT to have a rope tied around you and be lowered from a building. Also, when my friends first saw that, they thought Jack was hanging himself. I found that funny.

Wouldn't Snyder be suspicious when he walked into a room full of young boys, and everyone was completely silent and motionless?

It's stupid that those two boys are looking for Jack but they can't find him when all he did was swing to the other side.

Weasel raises his hand when he wants to tell Pulitzer something.

There's no way they'd be able to go from being so spread out to that close ending position at the end of Seize the Day Chorale.

It would really hurt to be hit with a rock or a marble or whatever that someone shot at you with a slingshot. Those guys would do a lot more than just say, "Ow" and keep fighting.

Spot is in too many places at once during that fighting scene.

Didn't Jack emphasize that he didn't want his picture in the paper?

You can see someone's hand pushing up Boots's chair when he's singing "A corduroy suit with fitted knickers" in King of New York.

When they're toasting Denton after King of New York, Kid Blink and Mush only get one glass, and you can see them look at each other and start laughing, and then they share the glass.

A Really Good One From My Dad:
What's the point of Jack and David's partnership? If "the usual" for Jack is 100 papes a day, that would mean he sells 700 papes a week. Then he says that he and Davey together would sell 1000 papes a week. Since Jack is making 60% from the partnership, that would mean he'd get the profits from 600 papes a week, and he'd make 50 cents less.

More Observations and Replies to Other Observations From You Guys:

From Abby:
During the song carrying the banner when they say, "we need an earthquake or a war" Jack trips during the dance, but they don't do anything about it and just keep going like nothing happened.

From Kristen B:
In "King of New York", in the background, you see the bartender and the waiter smiling and bobbing their head to the music.

From Cassandra Meyers:
1) Denton's mouth never moves right when he talks

2) If it really was 1899- would all of the newsies have straight, white, perfect teeth? (excluding racetarck because he doesn't)

3) Isn't that freckle, or mole, or whatever it is, on jack's neck bother you?

4) During "King of new York" when they're singing "tomorrow they may wrap fishes in it, but I was a star for one whole minute!" everyone spins around except for specks.

5) All the main characters have amazing eyes.

6) Could a bunch of kids conceivably beat up the scabbers?

7) How is spot in charge of the Brooklyn newsies?  He's about a foot shorter than every one of them, and he has no muscles.

8) When Jack decides they should go on strike david tells him that they can't because they don't have a union, and that if they go on strike they wont be a union.  Then, a few minutes later he says "were a union now..."

9) Davey doesn't look like the rest of his family.

10) During "the world will know" The first time they sing 'and our ranks will grow," look behind davey and the other guy.  Doesn't the man behind them look a little too old?

11) They don't actually spit in their hands- you can tell.  But, in the end, when davey does it he spits in his had, and you can see the look of disgust on jack's face.

12) Did you ever notice the boy who drops his papers when he sees jack and the other newsies? (the one with the really long skinny face)  Look around, he's an extra in almost every scene that they need a kid.

15) Davey's supposedly holding the rope that Jack's tied to, but he's a lot smaller than Jack, and his muscles aren't that big.  How can he hold a grown man's weight?

16) When the Newsies are "beating up" the scabbers, they don't actually touch any of them. (I think the guy who groans loudly then slams into the bars of weasel's office is so funny)

18) During "once and for all" Sarah sings "think about seizing the day" How does she know about that?  She wasn't there.

19) There's a modern day EXIT sign in the back at the rally.

20) If there's a printing ban on the strike how come the New York Sun writes about it anyway?

From Carlie (not me):
in the CTB scene, right after jack kicks oscar and morris in the face and u can sooo tell that's morris's stunt double

you know how nuns don't get married? well, one of the nuns is wearing a wedding ring

From *Erica*:
1.) When Jack says "60, 40" he points at David and then himself.

2.) At the very end Spot is in the carriage with Roosevelt and some people yell "Hey Spot!"

3.) Snyder taps a bunk to get a kid to take his hat off, but there's another kid right there with a hat on that Snyder doesn't bother.

4.) A nun has something white on her head.

5.) Jack's "K" doesn't looks like anything like a "K" when he writes"STRIKE"

6.) Someone leaves their paper on the ground while they are dancing at the end.

7.) During "The World Will Know" one guy throws his fist in the air before everyone else.

8.) Jack's imitation of David's laugh sounded a little too close to the real thing.

9.) A verse in "Carryin' the Banner" was completely cut out of the movie, though it was filmed.

From Wendy Joy:
--I think Race wanted to try and save some money but if Jack needed a favor Race was there to help out- no biggie in the newsies world.

--When Pulitzer is reading the paper it is so not the camera angles-he just messed up and they decided to use the wrong take when they edited it out- you can see the top row is "Trolley Strike Drags" and the 2nd row is "On for Third Week" When he reads he says "on" before he moves his hand to the second row that is not a camera angle it's an actor being human-which makes for a funny little blooper

--It would be hard for Medda to know it was Jack right away after coming from a brightly lite stage to the dark back stage her eyes had to adjust all she saw was 3 sillouettes basically of 3 youths.

--When the 3 leave meddas it's dark..well that's because the scene was supposed to be longer medda had a long song but they cut it to the 30 seconds we see and it was supposed to be imagination of okay they spend the rest of the day playing there and probably selling papes to the drunks inside getting more money from drunks who maybe would buy 2 papes and not even remember.the newsies were very smart kids.

--That is a stupid line I agree when Denton grills Davey after Jack goes the Pulitzer.

--When Jack say "Hey Crutchy" before Seize the Day It's because he had been gone all day and when he got back he imidiately started telling folks about spot being worried and then when they all got bumed they sort of spread back out and Jack then saw Crutchy on the ground painting a sign with naother newsie and just wanted to say hi to a pal---you know crutchy had a huge smile on his face he is always smiling and jack wanted to say hi to his cheery buddy.

--When the scabber band to get his papes and never pops back up it's because he went to pick them up and he either gets punched or he went to fight them and they punched him ...can't tell which one but I knwo he starts to get beat up that's why he never gets up then the brawl starts.

--Whenthe 2 boys run to look for jack ater snyder was in the room I'm sure he had time to be pulled back up and out of sight by then and why wouldn't they look in 2 directions to see if maybe he was on the other side they just wanted to see just being kids.(one on the right side of the screen is gloria estafan's son-heard that in the dvd commentary-if u haven't listened to it do so very interesting)

--One I'm sure you have all heard but-During "they need a good assassination"Carryin the banner -Mush is late to his spot for the peliv thrust.

---During beginning of carryin the banner Crutchy sings "you smell foul" then there's one line ("met this goil last night"-Mush) then immediatley he is washing his face and sing"ah move your elbow" seriously would there be enough time for him to hobble over and already be all in the water by that time...maybe there is just wonderign the thoughts of others though.

--In KIng of NY when the boys spin and point to the hoofers on the tables you can see Mush and Jack on the ground point then immediatley they are on the table closest to the camera dancing...strange huh :-)

From Shayna:
After doing all that running away from Snyder, When Jack, David and Les stop in front of the Hall, They should be tired right? Breathing hard...it was cold enough to see their breath.

From Becky:
Gotta love this movie....but....
2.  Jack looks as though he is constantly pondering the meaning of life.

3.  Jack's rope belt towards the end of the movie is really intricately tied.  I don't think he'd be smart enough to figuire out how to tie it.

4.  When Spot says "On the grounds of Brooklyn, your honor."  watch Racetrack's face/gesture it's really funny!

5.  "And my name is Mud...aNd I can't stand blood." Not only does this make no sense, but it seves NO PURPOSE. It's like a lyric filler.

6.  I get really confused sometimes in regards to Boots' name.  Do they keep changing it or something.  AT one point I think someone calls him Goose.  Then he says his name is Mud....pick one, sonny!

7.  One line from the original script, during the courtroom scene, was Jack calling the judge "your judgeship"  , they should have kept that, it's funny.

8.  Jack is supposed to be 17...yea...and Much is supposed to 45!

9.  During "Carrying the BANNER" the Newsies sing so joyously after some are poping out of the bathroom stalls, it's just funny because it's like, these guys were just taking a dump and then they gotta get out there and start singing!

10.  Sarah and Jack REALLY kiss at the end of the movie.  It's almost random because they kiss so HEAVY.

11.  Teddy Roosevelt looks like a robot when Crutchy pointes him out to Jack at the end of the movie.

12.  They never use Kid Blink's name in its entireity.  Race calls him "kid" at one point and tehn someone calls him "blink" at another, but I don't think they ever put them together.

13.  I think it would be really funny if Blink's eye piece switched eyes during the film.  If it does, someone please tell me.  It's an odd thing/suspision.

14.  Jack is a slick boy.

15.  The brooklyn guy who says "Going somewhere Kelly?" his pants/underwear is stuck to his pants, kinda like suction or something. HA!

18.  There are serveral aspects in the film that support the Davey-Denton theory.  Such as the end of the movie where Jack pulls Dave away from Denton, watch Dave's face.  WOW>

19.  Les saves his hot dog.  It must be pretty gross and smelly when he pulls it out later.

20.  Sarah is pointless she is only added in the plot to give it a "love-factor".

21. Kid Blink is over the top, but we love him anyway.

22.  I love Jack, he is jsut plain awesome. wow.

23.  You know the scabs, when Pulizter hired them was he like "hey you big scary men, wanna beat up a  bunch of street kids for me?"

From...Someone (They didn't sign it!)
you made a mistake the part in which jack hits delanceys hat. the thing that happened was that jack hit the hat off of delancey and if you watch closely you can see that delancey turned around really fast and picked up his hat and put it back on.

From Erica: (the same one who gave me observations awhile back)
Someone said "Jack asks Les if he wants to shine his shoes, Les never answers him." Have you ever watched the "True Story" part on the DVD? Well, it says that newspaper stands being built cost the newsies their jobs around the same time as shoe-shine stands were made, doing the same to boys who made a living shining shoes. When Jack askes Les if he wants to shine his shoes, he's sitting on one of the stands, but we know from the line "This is for kid shinin' shoes on the street..." in Once and for All that the shoe-shine boys weren't out of the job yet and the stand should not have existed.

From Maiden:
Boots does not say "And
my name is mud" He says "And their name is mud." That means that they're in really deep trouble. Trust me, my family uses this all of the time.

There originally was going to be a girl newsie in the movie but they kicked her out (Ahh the things you learn from audio commentary)

From Someone who didn't sign their name:
During one point in the movie, when kid blink is looking down you can see his eye through the cloth and it moves around with his other.

From Firecracker:
in the scene where Jack and Les go in to try to bring the newsies' demands to Pulitzer, Boots is wearing a DIGITAL watch! i'm pretty sure they didn't even have analog watches - they had pocket watches, sure, but not wrist watches, much less DIGITAL ones!!!

From Ledgand:
Someone said that they don't believe that Jack is seventeen, the actor was only eighteen when he did that movie.

From Chuckles:
Right after Jack buys his papers, they show the other newsies laughin at his joke, right? well if you look at Mush he makes like a "p" motion with his lips and looks at Blink. As soon as they pan away from them, if you listen really really closely you can hear Mush call Kid Blink "Parker". Get it? Trey Parker.

From Jillian:
Roosevelt looks like the Monopoly guy!
(Note from Sarol: I agree~he also looks a little like a walrus, and he looks mechanical, and on my old VHS copy, he was bright orange.)

While all the guys are talking to David(after Jack and David decide to be partners) about how Newsies sell papes, you can still see Race in the background reading his pape.

From an Anonymous Person:
I've noticed that Racetrack's voice sounds pretty similar to that of Frankie Muniz.  Listen to him sing in "King of New York" and see if he sounds like the star of "Malcolm in the Middle" to you.

From Britt R:
Did you ever notice that when Dave goes with Mush, Race, Blink, and Les to rescue Jack from the refuge, Blink has a rope? Where did he get that from? Isn't it Jack's trademark to have a rope tied across his waist? So is the rope Jack's, or if it isn't, how did the Newsies have enough money to buy it?

From KAE:
~ Did you ever notice a davey sarah thing? hmmmmmmm, insest

~Jack tells sarah to be quite because weasel's matrice is really thin, then they print all those papes?

~in the begining when jack is going to buy his papes it sounds like race says " Jackly just got laid"

~did you see the way davey and denton look at eac other when they are at his house.

~how come denton always buys the meals?

~when jack first leaves to go to the train yards. he doesn't say good bye to anyone.

~watch davey all through the sieze the day choral. he has some trouble with some of the moves.

From Liz:
At the edn of the scene where Denton tells everyone he's leaving, you see Les covering up his hot dog with the newspaper, but the paper is way too small for the hot dog and it doesn't cover it up all they way. Well, when Sarah takes the hot dog out later in the movie, the paper completely covers the hot dog!

From the Masked Newsie:
Where in the heck was Mush during the rally scene?  I don't recall seeing him sing with Medda and the guys or get pummeled by those scabbers(one of the most unforgiving scenes in the film).  Do any of you recall seeing him there?

Like Kid Blink's name is never said out loud, David and Les don't actually say their last name during the run of the movie even though we all know it's Jacobs.  Anyone notice that?

From Jessica:
wen jack is over davids house and sara gets the birthay cake, she hands him the fork and the plate with cake, then the camera angel changes, and you just see a plate with the cake. and she has to hand him a fork. its very obvious..so its real easy to see!!

From Spot's Girl:
In the end when they're singing "Sieze The Day Chorale"  Isn't it strange how Spot is in the crowd with everyone else when the other NY kids come in. And then suddenly switches sides to be in the front when Brooklyn comes in?

Ever notice that in the beginning when Race is reading the pape he reads that there's a baby born with two heads which must be from Brooklyn(which is not funny). Then when they're all together at the gate Specs says it's a baby born with three heads.

From Anonymous:
When Oscar tells Jack “we’re gonn go fix your pal davey…..fix ‘em so he can’t walk.” Jack pushes him and tells him to shut up. If you look closely, morris also pushes oscar and tells him to shut up. I doubt he was supposed to do that.

From Another Anonymous Person:
During the Musical number "Seize the Day" Crutchy is dancing around on both legs with his crutch in the air

From J.L. Jordan
Toward the end when all of the sweat shop boys and those girls and the kids on the bikes show up, it cuts back to Jack, Race, Sarah, etc, being all happy and stuff, and you can see Spot behind them, kind slapping Jack on the back and cheering. But at that point, he hasn't shown up yet. In fact, you can see him and they're all cheering, then it cuts to Spot arriving with the rest of the Brooklyn newsies.

To Becky from Jewel Conlon
When Boots says "And our name is Mud," he's actually referring to the Dr. Mud who was involved in the Lincoln assassination. The guy who shot Lincoln fell off the balcony and went to his friend, whose last name is Mud, and gets his broken leg in a cast. Later, Mud was put on trial for assisted murder and convicted, years after his death, his family wanted the convictions removed. "Our name is Mud," means "our names have been ruined."

From Gamester Clads:
Ok, In response to all the people who have the issue about the whole Race saying two heads and Specs saying three heads..... The two-head line is the one ACTUALLY in the newspaper. The line that Specs says is to show hwo they "improve the truth."

From an Anonymous Newsie:
What the heck happened to Spot during the rally "massacre"(I call it a massacre looking by all the newsies getting beaten like the wives of rowdy alcoholics)? When Davey sees Snyder, he whispers to Spot before he leaves to warn Jack. Before he leaves, we see Spot leave the table. The next time we see him, it looks like he was captured along with the others. What happened to him??

From Elise:
When Jack, Boots, and Davey meet Spot, you can see the tan line from his watch.  I don't think they had watches back then.  Gotta give Props to the Producers though!  Don't know where'd I'd be without Newsies!

From Hannah:
Ya know that newspaper the Newsies printed? It probably had the story and then at the end, "And by the way, here's the lyrics to our song so you can sing it when you come." I mean, they weren't singing loudly enough in "The World Will Know" for every sweatshop kid in the city to hear them so they wouldn't know what to sing!

From Eliza (Sparrow):
#1 on yer site, fer da test scores, dere are 62 questions, but you can score a 72?? how does dat work?? is dere extra credit, cause if so, i dont know about it.
(one of the questions is worth 10 points...)

#2 When da newsies decide to go on strike, as they walk out of the place where they buy the papes, Davey’s got some papes in his hand, when none of dem bought any. den, when da camera switches angles, dey’re gone.

#3 (not a blooper, just a question)When deir soaking da scabbers da first time when Crutchy gets caught, where do da tomatoes come from?

From Tracey and Kelly:
Davey's father is one of the extras in the riot that Davey and Jack see when they come out of  Medda's (you know, when Les falls asleep)...check it out, I'm serious...

From Swimma:
theres a joke about deton and davey that seems to be plausable and its REALLY hystarical. Picture Davey dating Deton. now, at the beginning, when deton says that davey looks like the leader- HELL-O flirting madness and then he even tries to be witty and says "David as in David and Golieth?" hahaha. and notice how dave is the most hurt when deton leaves... oh man... any they have eye sex a billion times!
