Medical Synophis of Werewolves - Notes collected by Professor V.S Pedvile.

Werewolf (wer = man, wolf) or Lycanthrope from Greek lykoi - wolf and anthropos - man.
Lycanthropy is a blood curse that causes human beings to transform during certain pionts of the moon's lunar cicle into wolves.
These wolves are human in body though are covered in a thick layer of fur (the colour varies), the head is distinctly lupine shaped as well as tail that grows, the hands are elongated and clawed. The vocal cord and sounds also change into distinctive calls of the wolf. Werewolves also are taller than their normal human guise and have an increase in strength and speed with the ability to run on two or four legs, top speed ever recorded on four legs was 20mph though this could be increased in the future.

The blood curse is most commonly passed on via a bite, this either happens by accident or intent by the Lycanthrope who is following an instinct to create a pack like the animal counterparts; werewolf packs also hold a complex relationship between one or two Alphas and members. One bitten by a werewolf the curse affects the person's DNA which is from then on perminated anyone bitten remains a werewolf for the rest of their lives.

- When a child is bitten by a werewolf they look physically normal apart from the disfiguration from the bite - also any other self inflicted scars or werewolve made scars. There would be a slight difference in personality - possinly causing violence when angry. But otherwise look like any other child.

- When a child is bitten and grows into an adult at pubertay other changes will occur. A Lycanthrope child's body starst to mature quicker by an average of 2 years ahead of their peers. This change is ecpected at the ages of 9-12 and the slow occurs at the ages of 11-13 depending on the time started.
This is normaly a quick growth that will stop as the rest of the body slolwy changes into an adult like average adolescents. This quick rush mainly effects the hormones and reproductive ares; girls menstrate early, boys voices will drop alittle etc. but these changes are absolutly unnoticanle if the effected is wearing clothes.

- Adult werewolves or those bitten when adult will find their personality be effected also like the child. High levels of emotion can provoke a primitive surgue of action; such high emotions levels like anger, love etc. Though these reactions are only slight near a full moon the reactions become very strong whcih can bring out a "wild side". It is advided for patients to try and remain calm during the week and learn to control themselves; if the suffer finds they are unable to a simple herbal relaxation potion, three drops on the tongue should be more than enough.
Food tastes may vary in all cases as some suffers like to have rare meat or more meat added onto their diet. This is not to be worried over to much though medically advised to cut as much fat as possible form the meat before consumtion for the normal health reasons.

- On the approch of a full moon a paitent may complain freguently of a "holwing" in the ears, feeling of being watched mostly at night and not being able to sleep as they feel restless or there is something in their minds that will not rest. It is surgested to pecribe a strong sleeping aid - though this should not be taken on a full moon.

After a transformation the cursed person will feel tired and achy from the change and will have flu like sytoms; to those who are not medically trained or experinces in spotting the signs. This is percirsed with bed rest, vitiam C and pain easing balm if nessesary.

- If a werewolf has done damage to themselves during the night or has been hurt some other way it is best to treat as a normal injury. Treating not to treat cuts or wounds with anything silver based. Threating a Lycanthrope with silver can cause the weaken body to go itno shock or in some drastic cases death. This counts for any medical care during any period during the lunar cicle. Though before the the constant changing a werewolf will face in his/her life time they have a quicker over all healing ablity so there are very few injuries that can cause them too much trouble.

- Doctors are advised to say to paitents who are sufferers of Lycanthropy to not have children. As the werewolf curse can be passed though the blood and alters the genetics of the infected, this defect can be past on via DNA from the parent to offspring. The unborn child if affected can also pass this onto the mother (if the mother is not already the carrier). Though there have been cases where a child has been born unaffected but it is a very high risk asked not to be taken; in some shadowed communities living away from the moving world often castrate any male werewolf they find.
Though if an uninfected woman finds herself to be pregenant from an infected male, half a teaspoon a day of a Silversale (this potion can be brought from speacilist healers) though seek a Healer's advise before taking as this holds another high risk to mother and child.
Any scratchs or bites made when the Lycanthrope is human no matter how deep should be checked by a healer. Same as with blood or bodily fuilids it must be checked straight away by a medically quallifed person.

As mentioned above a werewolf can live alone for along time but it has an instinct to join a pack or create one. The Lycanthrope that carries the orginal tainted blood (either by bite or birth) is usualy takes the role of the Aplha and the rest are members who where biten by the Aplha or in very rare cases born.
Some Lycanthrope's feel that tasting human flesh/blood will damm them forever and that if there is any salvation for the curse to be lifted from them, the tasting of human blood will pervent this.
