“Look At You Survive”
Words by Lorraine Shaver

When she heard the doctor’s words, she could not believe
She thought about her life, she thought about her family
The words of reassurance didn’t go too far
She’d forgotten any good she heard by the time she reached her car.

She had always been so strong, so free, so positive
A guiding and creative force, giving all that she could give.
Now she faced a wall of fear like she’d never known before
Yet, a still strong voice inside her said you can face this storm!

Walk through that open door:
Others have braved this storm
Know that you’re not alone
When you feel overwhelmed, carry on
When you strive, you can thrive, so Alive
Look at you Survive!!!

She very quickly realized that knowledge was her friend
Reading anything that might pertain from the beginning to its end.
Hope and Faith were lived out in her treatment and her care
And a growing inner spirit gave new wings to her prayer.

At night, she sometimes wept, but then the mornings came
Pills, appointments, therapy-keeping her regimen.
As she watched her outer image seem to change before her eyes
With compassion for herself she saw an inner beauty shine.

Walk through that open door:
Others have braved this storm
Know that you’re not alone
When you feel overwhelmed, carry on

When you strive, you can thrive, so Alive

Well, I know she’d probably tell you some days were real hard too
Like day 17- but some creative friends sure helped her through.
And she’d be the first to tell you, this was not the life she planned.
But now she has embraced her journey and there’s no turning back again.

Walk through that door:
Others have braved the storm
Know that you're not alone
When you feel overwhelmed, carry on
When you strive, you can thrive, so Alive.
