Synopsis

We meet Christian, a young poet who dreams of becoming a writer shorty after he arrives in Paris against his father's wishes. He moves into a garrett in the village of Montemarte. He soon meets Tolouse Lautrec and falls into bohemianism. Tolouse and the other bohemians are planning to make a show called Spectacular Spectacular at the Moulin Rouge. Chirstian is their new writer, and with the help of some absinthe, they go to the Moulin Rouge.
Harold Zidler, who owns the Moulin Rouge needs an investor to help finance the show. So he finds a rich man named The Duke Of Monroth. Meanwhile, Christian is watching the cancan dances and watches a number performed by Satine, the star of the Moulin Rouge known as the Sparkling Diamond. He is transfixed with her. In a later meeting, Christian and Satine fall in love with each other.
The Duke asks to have the deeds to the Moulin Rouge under one condition, that he also has Satine. This forms a love triangle which plays out through the movie.
This a musical, but not your ordianry one. Here charactors in 1899 break into such songs as "Diamonds Are a Gril's Best Friend", "Your Song" and "Like a Virgin". It is a swirling blaze of clor that left me and at least a few other people awe struck.
