POLICE VIDEOTAPE UFO OVER PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA
[ISCNI*Flash thanks Marius Lubbe of Cape Town, South Africa for sending this story, including his own verbatim translation of an article which appeared on September 1 in "Rapport," South Africa's largest Afrikaans Sunday newspaper. Marius Lubbe can be reached by email at: creative.minds@new.co.za]
SABC-TV news on August 28 reported that video material was shot of an alien craft very early that morning over Pretoria (about 60 kilometers north of Johannesburg). The footage taken by a police officer on duty, Sgt. Nico Bekker, was shown during the news. It shows a disk-shaped object which seems to be lightly pulsating. The photographer, who had some witnesses with him, said that they are certain that this is something unusual. There were some lights flashing on the disk. He also mentioned that the disk looked like a saucer.
In a different part of the city, another witness was interviewed. He said that the object travelled silently and in a undulating fashion. When asked by the reporter whether he thought that it might be a hoax, this witness, Mr. Johan Becker, said that he couldn't conceive of someone spending the huge amount of money it would take to construct a craft like that, just to perpetrate a hoax.
An interview with a Police helicopter pilot, Superintendant Fred Viljoen, was also shown. He had four passengers in a police helicopter and chased after the object. This man looked as if he had seen a ghost. He said that the craft outran him with ease. And what was very unusual to him was the undulating movements of the craft.
Newspapers picked up the story the next day and treated it seriously, although Marius Lubbe tells ISCNI*Flash that many South Africans seem convinced the incident was an elaborate joke. However, that is NOT the opinion of most of the witnesses, including numerous police. The full text of a story in "Rapport," a major Afrikaans-language newspaper, follows.
WAS IT A HOAX OR WAS IT LITTLE GREEN MEN?
[Translated by Marius Lubbe]
Was it a marketing ploy for a movie or the return of ET?
Nobody has up to now come forward to claim responsibility for the bright light seen in a burst of colors in the airspace over Pretoria this week.
The object drifted along in the early morning over the Erasmuskloof suburb until police appeared on the scene. It then shot off at an "unearthly" speed over Pretoria until it disappeared over the horizon at Cullinan.
This is what witnesses say, and also what can be seen on the video shot of the object that morning.
In the meantime, earthlings in South Africa are looking for an explanation in movie theaters where Independence Day started showing on Friday. Vonda Morgenrood, PRO for Sterland movie distributors, says that they had nothing to do with it; and one can hear that she is becoming agitated by this rumour.
[Police] Superintendent (Colonel) Fred Viljoen is also not too happy to have to tell his story once again. He is a veteran of many dangerous chases involving dangerous criminals and was one of the pilots involved in the heroic rescue of people from the roof of a burning office building, the SALU building, last year -- a serious man who studies historical Boer war campaigns as a hobby.
He stands by his statement of what he saw after his helicopter was scrambled at 5:25 am with four passengers on board.
"A bright light was above Mamelodi, a township near Pretoria, at 70 degrees above the horizon. I followed the white disk, with the unusual flight pattern, in the direction of Cullinan. It moved at a high speed. We could not keep up with it and eventually had to give up when lack of fuel became a problem."
He stands by his statement that the disk was easily observable even in broad daylight.
Supt. Viljoen says that he did not ask the Air Force to scramble a Mirage fighter, but had contact with the control tower at Waterkloof Air Force Base. They told him that their radar showed "clutter" in the area in which the disk was flying.
Supt. Viljoen says that it is the first time in his life that he has seen something like this and also says that he has always been skeptical about UFOs and visitors from other planets.
Sgt. Nico Stander, one of the policemen who was on patrol when the object appeared, showed us the video he took of the events.
One can see the steering wheel of the police car. Then you see the bouncing ball of light through the front windscreen while hearing the police radio chirping in the background. "It's pulsating like a little hart," [sic] says one of the voices. The Sergeant's voice says, "It could be a balloon, the morning star or an eclipse of the sun and moon."
Whatever it was, the Sergeant says, it was the highlight of a boring night patrol. On Tuesday nights, very little goes on in the streets of Pretoria.
"It was a full moon night with a slight breeze blowing. The conditions were very clear that morning. We were in the right place at the right time and just got lucky, I suppose."
Sgt. Stander has an interest in the unusual, and showed us a stack of the American magazine "Encounters." UFOs is an interest of his and he says that he believes in this sort of thing.
"When I saw this object, I just knew I had to get it on video. I went to my dad and borrowed his camera."
When asked what he would have done if the disk landed and little green men appeared, he said that he would have tried to communicate with them and be friendly towards them.
PERUVIAN "STARGATE" FITS ANCIENT LEGENDS
[Author Paul Damon wrote the following brief article recently for the British TruthSeekers Review, then posted it to the internet without copyright restriction. Damon says he first heard of the possible "Stargate" in Peru from a Peruvian UFO researcher, then compiled additional information from various sources in Lima.]

A huge mysterious door-like structure has recently been discovered in the Hayu Marca mountain region of Southern Peru. Hayu Marca, 35 kilometres from the city of Puno, has long been revered by local indians as the "City of the Gods," and has never been fully explored because of the rugged mountain terrain. Although no actual city has ever been discovered, many of the rock formations of the region resemble buildings and artificial structures.
The door, or "Puerta de Hayu Marca" (Gate of the gods/spirits), has been at some time in the distant past carved out of a natural rock face and measures exactly seven meters in height by seven meters in width, with a smaller alcove in the center at the base which measures just under two meters in height.
Jose Luis Delgado Mamani stumbled across the structure while trekking through the surrounding foothills trying to familiarize himself with the area. His job is as a guide for mountaineering tourists.
"When I saw the structure for the first time, I almost passed out," said Mamani in an interview with the local press. "I have dreamed of such a construction repeatedly over the years, but in the dream the path to the door was paved with pink marble, and with pink marble statues lining either side of the path. In the dream, I also saw that the smaller door was open and there was a brilliant blue light coming from what looked like a shimmering tunnel. I have commented to my family many times about these dreams, and so when I finally gazed upon the doorway, it was like a revelation from God... How do you make order of such a strange occurrence?"
After discovering the door earlier this year, Mamani contacted archeological authorities in Puno, La Paz and Lima. Within a short, time the area was besieged with archeologists and Inca historians.
It turned out that the native Indians of the region had a legend that spoke of "a gateway to the lands of the gods." In that legend it was said that in times long past, great heroes had gone to join their gods and passed through the gate for a glorious new life of immortality. On rare occasions those men returned for a short time with their gods to "inspect all the lands in the kingdom" through the gate.
Another legend tells of the time when the Spanish Conquistadors arrived in Peru and looted gold and precious stones from the Inca tribes. One Incan priest of the temple of the seven rays named Aramu Maru fled from his temple with a sacred golden disk known as "The key of the gods of the seven rays," and hid in the mountains of Hayu Marca. He eventually came upon the doorway, which was being watched by shaman priests. He showed them the key of the gods, and a ritual was performed with the golden disk which opened the portal. According to the legend, blue light did emanate from a tunnel inside. The priest Aramu Maru handed the golden disk to the shamans and then passed through the portal, "never to be seen again."
Archeologists have observed a small hand-sized circular depression on the right side of the small entranceway, and have theorized that this is where a small disk could be placed and held by the rock.
Some individuals who have laid their hands on the small door [report] a feeling of energy, as well as strange experiences such as visions of stars, columns of fire and the sounds of unusual rhythmic music. Others have said that they have perceived tunnels on the interior of the structure, though nobody as yet has found a gap that would illustrate the door opening. On the contrary, the professional opinion is that there is no actual door, for the frame and the entranceway and the back of the alcove are all carved from the same rock.
It is interesting to note that the structure undeniably resembles the gate of the sun at Tiahuanaco and five other archeological sites which link together by imaginary straight lines, crossing exactly at the point where the plateau and lake of Titicaca is located.
News reports from the region over the last twenty years have indicated sizable UFO activity in all of these areas, especially at Lake Titicaca. Most of the reports describe glowing blue spheres and bright white disk-shaped objects.
The aforementioned legend concludes with a prophecy that the door of the gods will one day open "many times bigger than it actually is..." and allow the gods to return in their "sun ships."

SANTIAGO -- Chilean ufology experts said yesterday [Aug 17] that sightings of UFOs, registered in the last few days in the skies of Chile and Argentina, could be in reality space rubbish re-entering the earth's atmosphere. Since last Wednesday night, more than a hundred people observed the appearance of formations of the supposed flying saucers in various regions of the two South American countries.
Sociologist Rodrigo Fuenzalida, president of "Associacao de Investigacoes Ovnilogicas do Chile (AION)," declared that his organization still did not have convincing evidence to justify that the observations were of space ships. "We think that it could be space rubbish entering the Earth atmosphere, but we also have doubts about that. What happened was seen for a very long time in several places of the region. That obliges us to continue to study this phenomenon," noted the specialist.
Fuenzalida maintained that the radars of the International Airport of Santiago also captured the appearances of the alleged Ovnis, even though officially the aeronautics authorities have kept silent about this situation.
One of the places where the phenomena were observed more clearly was in the town of Talagante, 40 kilometers from Santiago. There, dozens of frightened people jammed the telephone lines of a local broadcasting station, seeking explanations for what they were seeing.
In Chile, a great number of UFO sightings have been registered over the years, especially in the north part of the country, where ufologists speak about the existence of a secret landing runway.
Last June 13, during an interview called by the ufologists who were taking part in the Ufology Congress in Santiago, the researchers revealed that a UFO had chased a warplane during the Internation Air and Space Fair (FIDAE'96), which took place in the Chilean capital earlier this year. The Chilean ufologists alleged that the Chilean Air Force picked up the UFO in its radars and a F-5 fighter scrambled in pursuit.
Meanwhile, in the Central American nation of Guatemala, ufologists are travelling the country in pursuit of UFOs. Twelve people equipped with video cameras and calling themselves "The Vigilantes" never take their eyes off the skies.
The members of the group decided to get together in March of this year. With the videos taken so far, they expect to have sufficient data to delve deeper into research and to submit the evidence to a more rigorous scientific inquiry.
"Our objectives are scientific and we intend to get evidence of this phenomenon, which is marked by being ephemeral and fugitive," said Mr. Mendoza, director of radio Sonora es la Noticia, who has dedicated himself to ufology for 25 years.
During their meetings every fortnight, the investigators do comparative analysis of the videographic material compiled by the organization and materials from pre-existing case files from other parts of the world.
According to the specialists, in the last 45 years there were more than one hundred thousand flying saucer observations from all over the world, with more than 60 million witnesses.
