The Monumental Motorcar showroom (the "Odorite"), designed by the architectural firm of Smith & May in 1915, is one of Baltimore's earliest surviving automobile showroom buildings and one of a discrete group of early showrooms in the vicinity of Mount Royal Avenue that catered to the City's growing population of automobile enthusiasts during the first decades of the twentieth century. The primary attraction and asset of historic Mount Vernon is its architectural heritage. The loss of even one element of that heritage is a direct threat to the revitalization of the community.

The 1915 Odorite Building is designated historic and is in the Mt. Vernon local & national register districts and a Certified State Heritage Area.

Both the Odorite Building and the surrounding Mt. Vernon local historic district are eligible for listing in the Maryland Register. They are, in fact, listed in the Maryland Register of Historic Properties.

Any current disrepair or structural problems with the building are primarily the result of poor maintenance and neglect while under the University's care.
