Fancy's Story

Before Photos: When she came home. Scroll down to see NOW pictures.

Updated: 6/28/06 - Here are some teaser pictures of the girly. She sure has changed.

Look at the difference in her eyes and facial expression. In the older picture she looks dull. The pain is now gone and she has gotten her dignity back. You can see she looks so much healthier, brighter and is ready to learn.

This is her trotting to me from the other side of the arena. She likes to be with you.

This was unheard of to touch her ears. She is relaxed and you can see her licking and chewing (tounge out).

*************** Fancy's History ***************

Fancy is a 12 1/2 year old Registered Paint (with no paint) mare. She came to me as another rescue as she has had some serious issues with the previous owner. It was either I take her or she was going to an auction where she would end up going to the killers. On 3/7/05 Fancy came home to stay with my herd and me. The thanks for saving this sweet mare's life goes to my Husband's grandfather. He is friends with the previous owner and couldn't stand to see the horse go to an auction or to a bad home.

Fancy has been with me for almost 2 weeks now (3/7/05 she came home) and the change in her temperament has changed dramatically! When I first met her I was told she was a food aggressive alpha type mare that would virtually explode if too much pressure were applied. She would never stand still to get her feet picked or done and whenever ANY person approached her she would turn away with her ears pinned. The poor girl was very defensive and liked to push you around.

This horse has been through A LOT! There have been some serious situations that she has been in and I plan on getting her some Chiropractic work. I feel her hips and/or back might be out due to a fall she had. From what I was told she was drugged and twitched and put into a chute to trim her ears and muzzle. She burst out of the chute and reared up and fell over backwards landing on the previous owner. Fancy has also gotten spooked out at a trail/camp site and backed into a parked car. I think the straw that "broke the camel's back" was when a new farrier came to do her feet 2 weeks prior to her coming home with me. I don't know what happened and I don't think the owners do either, but Fancy was cross-tied and something set her off. She broke free from one of the cross ties and was still connected on the other. In a panic she tried to run but was connected to the other pole. Well she pulled a large wooden pole and a bunch of outside electrical out when she broke free. Personally I think the farrier got tired of her dancing around and hit her. There would be no other reason for her to react so violently.

I started the Parelli 7 games with her the second day she was home. She did very very well and caught on quickly. I was very happy with her learning. The next night we played more of the games and ended up doing 5 of the 7 games at Liberty! I was VERY pleased with this! I couldn't believe she wanted to be with me so much and how willing she was to please. Fancy sticks to me like glue! She mimicked every move I made and she had her ears forward! I will be getting pictures of this as soon as I can. I am really amazed that Fancy came around so quickly. I can't wait for her to put a few pounds on (vet said AT LEAST 150lbs) so we can start riding and seeing what she knows. There are just a few more important things to tend to first before I get on her back. Her teeth needed some major attention so she could put some weight back on and her feet need to be trimmed properly. I don't think she got any attention after her shoes were pulled because of her outburst. I didn't even look like the back hooves got trimmed. Mike La Grone will be tending to her feet, which I will be very excited to get that done. Her feet have been a tad sore from being barefoot and having a crummy job done. Once she is in balance I know she will feel so much better. The next thing would be to get her looked at by a Chiropractor. I have a strong feeling she will need to be adjusted. Luckily I was told that both Mike and a Chiropractor would be coming out to our stable on the same day! So we'll see what they have to say about Fancy!

Stay tuned for more updates with pictures. On 3/26/05 we'll be seeing Mike so hopefully I can get some before and after pictures of her feet along with how she does with Mike. Although it is Easter weekend, we might have to wait till the following weekend. I hope not, but I understand him wanting to be with his family for the holidays instead of trimming horses. I know she might be a little scared at first, but Mike is SO awesome with the horses, we just love him!

Thanks all for reading! Keep checking back, I will try to get pictures this weekend if it isn't raining!

More Pictures Coming Soon!!! And Hopefully a short video too!!!
