The Nightmare Before Christmas Medley

This page is completely devoted to Kaktis and my Nightmare Before Christmas Medley! What is Nightmare you ask? Well, Nightmare is Kaktis and I's life work (or so we say). It is a band arrangement of a few songs from the movie The Nightmare Before Christmas that we started in December 2003 and Finished in September 2004. It took a LOT of work. It was a lot of fun to do as well. It was also an amazing feat as we had only learned how to successfully transpose and arrange music one month prior to starting this project.
Ah yes, back in the day, I remember when we had only a mere 35 seconds of it complete and jumped for joy. The medley is now all most 6 minutes in length. We kept Mr. Wilcox and other close friends in tow as we completed it bar by bar. There was one point in the creation where I am certain that people had lost faith in it's completion. Those were the months in the spring when we really had no time for anything with summative projects due and exams coming. But we worked even harder than before through the summer to get it finished for school. Since the only times that we worked on it were pretty much in the wee hours of the night, we came out with a bunch of inside jokes that the average person would not understand, even if they tried. And who could forget, that one day when we were overly tired and on some sort of kick... I was an indian and Kaktis was a pirate. Dressup time is always a fun time! Quadre-puh, and mpmf... Those were also good times. Another good time was when we got Sibelius II! And then found out that we could transpose by the simple click of a button! Sibelius makes life so much easier!
This project was definately something fun to do in our spare time and gave us something to look forward to as we are now playing it in the Concert Band at school as well as the senior music class. I am very pleased that people are excited with its completion and pleased with how it sounds. Whee!

All of the percussion in this was done by Kaktis and I listening to the parts that we incorperated into the medley over and over again figuring it all out beat by beat. There are some parts in the medley where we did that with other instruments as well. Fun Fun. This midi is a bit choppy, so I am sorry a head of time! Enjoy!

UPDATE! Nightmare was played at the Christmas Concert on December 9th 2004, it was very successful consitering the complexity of the piece. It was a proud moment for both Kaktis and I as Mr. Wilcox introduced our sound with great enthusiasm saying things like; "They updated me, everytime they finished another four bars they would email it to me!" It is entirely true too. He also said how it is always a proud moment for him when his student do something of that magnatude on their own. Oh, Mr. Wilcox, your funny. At the end of the song, the whole room was filled with applause as we were asked to stand in recogintion of our great work. I can say, that it was one of the proudest moments of my life. What a great concert!

If you click Kaktis and I, you can hear the wonderful midi of Nightmare!
