First Generation

He was the son of Jehiel Gates and Hulda Matilda Gross.       James married (1) Marcia (Marsia) Westover on 1809 in East Haddam, Middlesex, CT. Marcia was born Mar 25 1789 in Litchfield, Litchfield, CT. She died Jun 24 1817 in Litchfield, Litchfield, CT. She was the daughter of Joseph Westover and Rebecca Kilbourn.

James and Marcia had the following children:

Mary was born Mar 18 1829 in Bradford, Yrkshr, Engld. She died Jan 23 1903 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, UT. She was the daughter of William Smith and Esther Hazel.

George was born Apr 11 1861 in Provo, Utah, UT. He died Oct 26 1914 in Salina, Sevier, UT and was buried Oct 29 1914 in Lewiston, Cache, Utah. He was the son of James Alexander Ivie and Sarah Francis West.
