Smith, Daniel H., Captain, born 13 June 1816, lived in Glenn Springs TWP. He was a commissioned officer in one of the companies of the old 45th S.C. Militia and previously served as an Orderly Sergeant in 9th South Carolina Reserves, Company I, Jun 1862 - Jan 1863. He married Jane Lanford in Spartanburg 23 February 1843. He died 24 October 1898.

Also served with in 7th Regiment State Troops (1862), Company A, and 27th SC Regiment, Companies B and K, SC Troops and 1st Battalion, Senior Reserves (1864) . Enlisted 20 Nov 1862. Last entry was dated 5 Jun 1864 for transfer to hospital, Raleigh, NC. He was on service connected disability until his death.
