Officers
Johnson, William H, Captain, was born in Williamsburg County, SC on 9 November
1818. After serving at the Florence Stockade, he was transferred to Hilton
Head Island and served there until he became sick. His wife learned of his
illness from a slave who went off to serve with him who was sent home because
he didn't have enough food for the both of them. When Great GrandMa learned of
his illness, she and the old slave took a mule and wagon and went to Hilton
Head. got him and brought him home. He died in Williamsburg County, SC on 10
November 1889 and is buried in the Johnson Cemetary in Williamsburg County, is
located in the Muddy Creek section outside of Hemingway. Previously served in
1863 3rd State Troops
