Note: While I cannot be 100% sure, it appears that these 4 regiments functioned pretty much together as a brigade, unlike the 8 battalions raised earlier in the year, that seem to almost never serve together. Companies were detached, troops constantly being detached and it appears highly likely that many of the companies were absorbed into depleted SC CSA units at the end of 1864 and again in the Spring of 1865. The following has been extracted from letter of F. F. McRae. Col. A. D. Goodwyn, as Senior Col., commanded the Brigade all the time the Command was in service. Lt. Col. J. W. Harrington took command of the {3rd] Regiment. The Brigade was composed of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Regts. S.T. which were made up of one company from each County in the State. The 3rd Regt. was from Chesterfield, Darlington, Horry, Marion, Sumter, Clarendon, Marlboro, Williamsburg, Richland and Georgetown. The Regt. did duty at different points between Charleston and Savannah, at Honey Hill, Adams Run, Green Pond, Coosawhatchie and other points. They were in Savannah at the time Sherman entered the City. They were on James Island at the time of the evacuation of Charleston, and went from there with Hardee's Army to Raleigh, N.C., and from there were ordered back to South Carolina, disbanding finally at Spartanburg, S.C. This is consistent with everything else I have seen.
