Lister Hill Library of the Health Sciences

Responsible for cataloging of UAB’s Historical Collections, primarily those of the Reynolds Historical Library, a growing collection of more than 10,000 rare books and manuscripts pertaining to the history of medicine. Performed rare book cataloging (including original cataloging), complex copy cataloging of monographs and serials.  Served as Senator for Lister Hill Library to the UAB Faculty Senate and as Co-Chair of LHL’s Preservation Management Committee, which produced LHL’s Disaster Response/ Recovery Plan, and Chair of the Preservation Issues Subcommittee, which drafted LHL’s Preservation Policy.  Designed and maintained the Lister Hill Library Internet MEDLINE Training Site as instructional design consultant to LHL's National Library of Medicine MedTrain subcontract team providing Internet training to minority or unaffiliated rural health professionals.

Teaching:  “University 101: The University Experience,” a university-wide course in interdisciplinary critical thinking, Fall 2002.

Grant Funding and Applications:

  • “Lister Hill Library Historical Collections Cataloging Project,” Preservation and Access Grant, National Endowment for the Humanities, applied for June 2002
  • “Research Revolution: The Laboratory and the Shaping of Modern Life,” primary investigator for pilot site application, National Video Resources, National Science Foundation, in collaboration with the American Library Association, funded October 2002 to September 2003

Duties:  searching and editing online computer records for cataloging of monographs, creating and editing records for dissertations, proofreading of catalog records, editing of procedures manual, processing of all monograph bindery work, and conducting supply inventory for cataloging department; served on Total Quality Management/ Continuous Quality Improvement Committee and TQM/CQI Survey Subcommittee.
