"And, most importantly, we should consider a tax increase only as a last, not first, resort." Long Island Press 3/14/03
"We, as Republicans, believe that property tax increases are the last, the absolute last step in solving the County fiscal problems." Massapequan Observer 2/14/03 |
The Republican legislature passed a 1 percent real estate transfer tax and 10.5 percent increase county property tax in 1999.
|
| "I see nothing but increases," Schmitt said. "Where are the cuts?" regarding the 2003 Suozzi budget. Newsday 9/18/02 | The budget contained cuts of $430 million through 2006. and the county is eliminating 1400 jobs. |
| "Facts, as Ronald Reagan once said, are stubborn things" Massapequan Observer 3/28/03 | John Adams is quoted as saying "Facts are stubborn things." Ronald Reagan is quoted as saying "Facts are STUPID things." |
|
"For the past four years, the Democratic party has been firmly in charge in Nassau County." Long Island Press 3/14/03 "Let us be clear. The Democrats are and have been in solid control of Nassau County for the past four years." Massapequa Post 3/05/03 |
The Democrats took over the Legislature in 2000 which is three years ago. For the first two years, 2000-2002 Republican Tom Gulotta was the County Executive. Democrat Tom Souzzi took control of the County Executive seat in 2002. So we have Democrats controlling the Legislature and the Executive seat since the start of 2002. It is now April 2003. How many years is that? Why, ONE of course. |
| "New York City has cut spending in an effort to reduce the city's deficit, they have not turned to tax increases on the residents to achieve financial stability." Long Island Press 3/14/03 | New York City under republican Mayor Bloomberg HAS raised property taxes 18.4% this past year. His original proposal was 25%. Bloomberg is also seeking to increase the city income tax. On top of that, Bloomberg wants to bring back the Commuter Tax. He also seeks to put tolls on all east river crossings. Bloomberg's cuts went right to education, FDNY and NYPD. This was all widely reported and something Pete couldn't have missed. |
