The School Age Mothers Program (S. A. M. P.) is a special program that provides continuing education for any pregnant teen, married or unmarried, whether or not she is presently attending school. To be eligible to enroll she must reside within the boundaries of the South San Francisco Unified School District or the Jefferson Union High School District.

The program provides the services of a full-time teacher. In addition, a public health nurse gives instruction in nutrition, prenatal care, labor and delivery and care of the newborn baby. Counseling is available to assist with problems or decisions the girl may be facing.

Pregnancy will bring about many changes in the life of a high school student, but graduation, career planning and working toward independence must become an increasingly high priority.

S. A. M. P. offers an opportunity for young women to be with others in the same situation. One of the most important benefits is the companionship and support the students are able to give each other. It also offers an opportunity to continue school without interruption, to keep up with most subjects and to graduate or return to the "home" school following the birth of the baby.
