What about letting kids use a telescope?
If you have a "kid friendly" telescope, there shouldn't be a problem with letting kids ages 9 and up use a telescope. However, kids should ALWAYS be supervised. Telescopes are delicate optical equipment, and kids can sometimes be careless. Also, make sure they NEVER point a telescope at the sun. Direct sunlight through a telescope can (litterally) vaporise your retina within seconds. Ever burn holes in paper with a magnifying glass and the sun? Same principle, only magnified several thousand times. There are safe ways to observe the solar surface through a telescope, but further reading, research and instruction are required before you choose to attempt it.
