About the Observatory And the 7th Place Sidewalk Astronomers |
|||||||
If you are reading this, you have probably already been to one of our neighborhood observing events. If you are a newcomer to the neighborhood and have recieved one of our fliers, here is a little bit of history. The Schwartz observatory program was informally begun in 2003 by Tristan Schwartz. It all started with a small neighborhood party to observe a total lunar eclipse. Since then, we have organized a number of small, informal neighborhood star parties with the purpose of educating the public about astronomy and fostering interest in the hobby of amateur stargazing. Heavily influenced by the "Astronomy for the Masses" philosophy of John Dobson and the San Francisco Sidewalk Astronomers, our main intent is to bring the heavens to earth, one neighborhood at a time. |
