Experiment #1 – What is a stem for?

 

Materials Needed:

 

        Carnations

        Celery with leaves

        Food coloring (yellow or blue)

        Water

        Knife – get parent help!

        Cup

 

What to Do:

 

1.   Fill the cup with water and add enough food coloring to make the water a dark color. (yellow works best)

2.   Have a parent cut about an inch off the bottom of the carnation and the celery.

3.   Place the celery and the carnation in the water for 24 hours.

4.   What happened?

Experiment #2 – The Truth About Veggies

 

Materials Needed:

 

        Various Fruits and Vegetables

        cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes, celery, carrots, radishes, apples, zucchini, pumpkins, etc.

 

What to Do:

 

1.   Separate the fruits from the veggies.

2.   Did you know fruits are a part of the plant that contain seeds?

3.   Did anything you put in the veggies pile contain seeds?  If it did then it is really a fruit!! 

4.   Resort your piles.

Experiment #3 – Dancing Raisins

 

Materials Needed

        Raisins

        Carbonated Water

        Glass

        Music!

What to Do:

1.   Fill the glass with Carbonated Water

2.   Put in the raisins

3.   Put on the music

4.   Watch what happens!
