Experiment # 1 – Coffee Filter Butterflies

Materials Needed

• Cone shaped coffee filters

• Black marker

• Cup of water

• Scissors

What to Do:

1. Make a dark thick mark on both sides of the bottom of the coffee filter. (The small end)

2. Place the coffee filter in the water so that the bottom is barely in

3. Watch what happens!

4. Cut the filter down the sides to make a butterfly!

Materials Needed

• Old CD or DVD

• A flashlight

• Darkened room

What to Do:

1. Put the CD or DVD upside down in a darkened room near the wall.

2. Shine the flashlight on it at an angle

3. Look What happens on the wall!
