hana and her mommy & daddy went to auntie akemi and uncle david's wedding reception today. although it was raining all day, she had a great day running around the wilshire country club with all her friends and relatives. here is a shot of hana and her new "hello kitty" table that her daddy made for her after a visit to the local home depot.

since it is getting increasing difficult to keep track of all of hana's little daily achievements on this page, we have decided to introduce a new page called "hana's ladder" listing them all up. also, for all of the millions of viewers of this page desperate to ask hana a question, we have created "hana's Q&A forum"...yes, now we've really gone overboard...we know...we know!

hana did her very first shee-shee in her little sesame street potty that mommy bought for her today! hana really understands much of what the big people around her are saying these days, so we expected her to catch on with the potty thingy pretty quickly...but wow, hana put it into use within 30 minutes of taking it out of the box! another hana chan milestone for the records! another shot of our little sleepy head.

hana is now slowly but surely being weened off of breast milk, and seems to be adjusting nicely (with a few notable exceptions...especially in the middle of the night...about 3 am-ish...long bouts of screaming at the top of her little lungs...on and on...and on and on...) hana and her mommy visited great-grandma fumiko o-baachan yesterday and had a ball romping around uncle george's house. hana's new words: apple, referring to the whole, unpeeled apples; "gogo," baby talk for "ringo," the japanese word for apple, referring to peeled and sliced apples; "atta," the japanese word for "there it is!"; "cute cute," when she knows she is especially cute i.e. when she is wearing some new clothes; and "up, up," when she is trying to climb things; "kai, kai," japanese baby talk for "itchy"; and "itai-tai," japanese baby talk for "it hurts" (these last two are very helpful, as she is actually notifying us of these states). this shot is of hana capone, notorious 1.5 year old mobster.

another shot taken at auntie akemi and uncle david's wedding...how romantic! and here is what hana looks like when she first gets up in the morning. what a mugshot! we attended a luncheon given in honor of hana's grandpa henry today at the ucla faculty club. gramps was chosen as this year's marquette alumnus of the year, and so his colleagues at ucla were nice enough to put this event together to celebrate. in the meantime, all three of us are getting over post-hawaii colds, so we haven't been up to much as of late. new hana words: "shoes", "ball", "baba" for banana, "pan" the japanese word for bread. and we know for sure hana is a dyed in the wool takei, as she has shown an early love of peanut butter on bread and the infamous takei-style ochazuke (rice with green tea and umeboshi juice, NOT the ume, or japanese plum, itself, mind you...just the juice). another milestone for hana: from 2/3/01, hana is now only allowed one drink of her beloved oppai (mommy's breast milk) per day (in the morning). however, she still needs to keep at least one hand rested on the source of all joy in the universe in order to fall asleep at night! poor thing! and finally, hana now loves to play with her hawaii beach toys in the bathtub! she especially likes her little blue plant watering bucket, with which she pours bathwater into a little cup over and over and over and...

hana's back from maui where her lovely auntie akemi was married to her new uncle, david (seen here on the left with hana and grandpa henry). the wedding, set on a beach on the island of Maui, was simply awesome...and uncle david is the most thoughtful person! since auntie akemi's beloved dogs madison and berkeley couldn't make the trip, he actually had life-size cutouts made and had them standing right up there at the altar! we love auntie akemi and uncle david very much, and wish them a lifetime of happiness! a cute little side-note: right after the couple exchanged their vows and tried to head back through the aisle, little hana took her cue and sprinted in front of them, to the delight of the crowd! all in all, a great time in hawaii for the whole (growing) family!

well, it's off to maui tomorrow for auntie akemi's wedding! hana has had the runs for the last few days, but we didn't want to tell her grandma atsuko and auntie kaori in japan...they would just die if they even suspected that hana might not come. but no worries, dr. nakashima cleared hana to go today, so we're off! hana's newest words: 'boooon' for 'moon', 'nai' for 'nothing' or 'empty,' and 'poi' for 'throw.' we also ofter find her singing to herself charming little made-up tunes! what a cutie!
