Mitch and I had an incredible trip to Kauai, one of the most beautiful spots in the Hawaiian Islands.
We rented a Harley and rode to see the sights of the entire island, which is only about 55 square miles. There were so many different climates ... from the gorgeous beaches to riding up over 5,000 feet to Waimea Canyon!
We stayed in Lihue, which is near the airport, but found the city of Poipu to be one of our favorite spots. We spent time in Poipu each day, and enjoyed Brennecke's Beach. We were even treated to a special apperance by a monk seal ... an endangered species on the island, whose own private beach was roped off by the lifeguard once he found a place to lay in the sun!
We shared a condo with Dean & Lisa Kohn of Bloomington, and had a great time ... but the week was scarred by the events of 9-11 in New York City. We felt a world away from all of the destruction, and we had concerns over getting home since flights were grounded for several days. In the end, we were delayed one day ... we made it from Kauai to Honolulu, then were bumped in Honolulu with only the clothes on our back for about 24 hrs.
It was good to get home and hug our boys, and we hope to be able to go back to Kauai at some point in the future and enjoy it again!!

Mitch was in heaven on the Harley ... who wouldn't be in such a beautiful paradise? We had three days of riding the bike around the island. Ahhh ... |

We were on the bottom floor of the building on the right, perched on a cliff, with a deck overlooking Nawiliwili Bay. It doesn't get much better than that! |

Interior shots of the condo. It even came with (at least) four pet geckos! They had their space, we had ours :-) |
