This Week's Competitions

A Lake Placid - Killington Double Header

The A's are at Lake Placid to compete for the JApril Cup on Friday.  Flapper and the crew will be going to Lake Placid on Thursday night and will be staying at the Econo Lodge in Lake Placid, 518-523-2817.  They will return to Mount Snow Friday night and then Devon Rausch will leave with a van from the Mount Snow Training Center at 5:30AM for meets at Killington on Saturday and Sunday.

The JApril Cup

The April Family, FreestyleAmerica, the Olympic Jumping Complex of Lake Placid, and the Olympic Regional Development Authority of New York are pleased to extend an invitation to all USSA aerial competitors to compete in the JApril Cup, in memory of US Freestyle Team aerialist, Jeremy April.

Two aerial events will occur on February 7, each a two jump USSA Aerial event. The combined winners  of these two events shall be awarded the JApril Cup and be crowned the USSA Eastern Aerial  Champion, male and female. Leading up to this event is a three day aerial camp. Athletes are invited to attend all or any of these training days.  For additional details visit www.mountsnow.org.

The B Team is at Mount Snow!

Mount Snow is hosting this week's B meet.  If you haven't registered please contact Heather Quinn at the Training Center, 802-464-1100, ext. 4636.  For volunteer information and a detailed list of duties see the section below and the attached document.

Upcoming Competitions

A's compete at H2O-ville for the Phil's Hill Title

The A's will be going to Waterville on Saturday, Feb. 15, for a Sunday-Monday meet.  They will be staying at the Super 8 in Campton, NH, phone 603-536-3520.  Sunday is Moguls and Monday is Big Air.

The B's have an optional Sugarbush Meet on Feb 22-23

On our schedules for this meet we had marked it with a question mark.  This was done because we have not yet attended a B meet at Sugarbush and if we are to attend, it would probably be an overnight meet.  The athletes that we would suggest attending are those who need to earn points for Regional Championships and EQS Championships.  Before we answer any questions regarding whether we should attend, we first must get a recent eastern points list.  The most recent points list can be found at www.eastfree.org under important notices.  Usually I can look at the points list, and within seconds tell where an athlete stands but with the one that is up there now I'm still scratching my head.

So to answer questions on whether we will be going to Sugarbush, we will have to sit down and review the standings before giving a definite answer.

Getting psyched for the Mount Snow Meet this weekend!

The Volunteer List is attached to this Newsletter. Also we still need a few more volunteers specifically as the Judge's Assistants.  For new parents, jump in wherever you can.  Remember this is a warm up to the B Championships that are back at Mount Snow in March!

The Jump site is on Video Hill and the scoring will be done at the Grand Summit.  The jump site itself is going to be at the maximum specifications for a B meet which will make a superb hill for our competition.

The Mogul course is on Beartrap.  The mountain has piled snow at the top to eliminate the flat top section.  Bumps will be built by the Head Groomer, Neil, who has built bumps for the World Pro Mogul Tour.

There have been a few questions regarding what is expected of volunteers and what the specific responsibilities are for each volunteer position.  To answer the first part, we expect people to show up when they are needed.  To find the times please see the attached volunteer list.  There are enough volunteers so no one person is overworked and we should have plenty of substitutes to relieve volunteers for a short time during the competition.

For the responsibilities, only a few questions have come up, mainly dealing with registration duties and course maintenance duties.  For registration it is vital that we are prepared and organized early on Saturday morning, 700AM, (and remember to bring along you smiles).  We are lucky to have seasoned parent volunteers who have run registration before.  The volunteers with experience in the registration will explain the procedures to the rest on Saturday morning.

For course maintenance on Saturday we plan to head to the jump site around 7:30AM to chop the landing hill.  We will need to chop the landing hill, step the landing hill, fill in holes on the landing hill, step the in-run and make sure the site is safe.   Also help with the assembling and disassembling of the staging for the judges' stand and assist in putting it all back together at Beartrap after the Aerial meet.  For Sunday maintenance responsibilities include chopping the landings of the jumps before the meet and scraping snow off of the jumps during the meet to be assured that each competitor has a soft landing on the jump and the jump is free of loose snow.  Also, when the mogul competition is finished we must disassemble the staging again and load it on the snow cat.  And yes, we will provide shovels.

Training Day on Friday

Scott Lafferty and Mike Decker will be at Mount Snow putting final touches on the competition venues on Friday.  We would be glad to have any athlete up at the mountain to train the competition courses.  It should be a great training day because the courses will be competition ready and there will be no crowds.

Mikie and JoElle sitting in a tree...

Congratulations to Michael and JoElle Rosella, who celebrated their one year Anniversary on February 2nd.
