local
cyclist is biking through
new england
to complete his late father’s coast-to-coast dream
Matt
Klainer, Who is Biking in Honor and in Memory of His Father, is Almost
Finished With Coast-to-Coast Bicycling Journey
Boston,
MA, August 10,
2003 – On
Father’s Day, Boston resident, Matt Klainer dipped the rear wheel of his
bicycle in the Pacific Ocean to start a 4,200-mile fundraising ride across
the United States of America in honor and in memory of his father, Jeremy
A. Klainer.
Matt’s
father passed away suddenly on
April 17, 2002, just two months before he was to set off toward his goal of crossing America
by bicycle. His dream remains
unfinished – a dream Matt plans to complete.
After cycling for eight weeks and 3,500 miles, Matt has only the
historic towns and villages of Vermont, New Hampshire
and Massachusetts
to cycle through to reach the
Atlantic Ocean.
In
addition to paying tribute to his father, this journey will also serve as
a way to raise money for the entrepreneurial scholarship the Klainer
family has set up in honor of the late Mr. Klainer at the University of
Rochester Graduate School of Nursing.
In
order to continue Mr. Klainer’s recent work, the family established the Dr.
Jeremy A. Klainer Entrepreneurial Scholarship Fund at the University
of Rochester Graduate School of Nursing. The mission of Scholarship Fund
is to provide funds for healthcare professionals to learn the skills of
entrepreneurship, thereby empowering themselves to seek out new and better
ways to provide healthcare in America.
In
order to endow this scholarship, $100,000 must be raised. The family
pledged $50,000 and the remaining $50,000 will be raised through
fundraising efforts that honor the memory and the legacy of Dr. Jeremy A.
Klainer.
