Ummm, where to start?
When I read my "Baby book" that my parents had prepared for me,
it said that at the age of three years old I was humming all
the guitar solos to the music they would play on the radio etc.
I guess it started way back then. I have always had an intense
passion for music, but gladly i didn't pursue the guitar..haha
My brother and I recieved our first drumkit in about 1978.
With brotherhood comes competitiveness, and we both pushed
each other to improve and out-play the other.
My brother, Trent Bryson-Dean is an amazing drummer now by any standard.
Anyways, we destroyed our first drumkit pretty quickly, leaving me
to play many an hour on a beanbag we had in our loungeroom,
whilst listening to music such as Led Zeppelin or the Police
with headphones on.
We finally got another drumkit in about 1983. What a wait that was!
I had figured many things out without a drumkit and things came
very naturally to me on my new blue Tama Swingstars.
Two years of hard practice and I was in my first Rock N' Roll band.
I haven't looked back ever since!
At first I was totally a rock pig, but my entire idea of the drums
changed when i heard the Chick Corea album "Inside Out".
Dave Weckl's playing was something i had never experienced
and I was forever destined to be a fusion musician after hearing "Inside Out"
In May 1991 I was lucky enough to see the John Mclaughlan Trio in my
hometown of Brisbane, Australia.
The passion and technical profficiency that I experienced that night
was definately a spiritual experience.
My life was changed! I knew my place in the universe!
Music is my life, my passion, my sanity.
I feel I communicate best when I am behind my drumkit, improvising.
Talking is almost like a secondary type of communication.
I feel very priveledged indeed!
