Sharks Dominate In Dallas, Snap Losing Streak With 4-0 Win SJsharks.com March 4, 2007 |
The Sharks tallied four even strength goals on Sunday afternoon, snapping their four-game losing streak by dominating the Stars, 4-0, in Dallas. Looking to end their season-high four-game losing streak, the San Jose Sharks (39-25-2, 80 pts) traveled to Dallas for Sunday's matinee matchup against the Stars (38-22-5, 81 pts). At 17:21, the Sharks drew first blood early as Curtis Brown got San Jose on the scoreboard on the first shot of the game. Mike Grier moved the puck to Christian Ehrhoff as San Jose broke out of their zone. Ehrhoff pushed the puck through the neutral zone and dished the puck to Brown just before gaining the blueline. Brown moved into the zone to Turco's right and snapped a shot over Turco's left shoulder giving San Jose the early 1-0 lead. Though Dallas responded with two high-energy shifts after Brown's goal, Evgeni Nabokov made a pair of solid saves highlighted by his kick save on Dallas forward Mike Ribeiro at 14:10 of the first. Ribeiro ripped the shot off of the cross-ice feed, but Nabokov moved across the crease from his right to his left to make the save. With 7:28 to go in the first, the Sharks earned their first power play of the game when Antti Miettinen caught Ehrhoff in the mouth with a high-stick. The Sharks set up in the Dallas zone, but the Western Conference's top power play unit was denied by Dallas's penalty kill failing to register a shot on Marty Turco as the score remained 1-0. Dallas took their turn on the power play with 2:10 to play in the first when Bill Guerin was whistled for hooking. The Sharks killed Guerin's penalty and despite being out shot 9-1, took a 1-0 lead into the locker room after 20 minutes of play. As they did in the first, San Jose opened the second period with a huge burst of energy. Grier nearly made it a 2-0 game at 18:21 of the second when he broke into the Dallas zone, but Turco made his first save of the game, denying Grier's chance. The Sharks earned their second power play chance of the game four minutes into the second when Stu Barnes was sent off for hooking. An active Sharks power play pelted Turco with shots but the Dallas netminder kept it a 1-0 game six minutes into the second stanza. |
