Thistle the talking budgie

Hi my name is Thistle. My owner Sharon whom I like to call Mommy bought me on February 27,2000. Mommy got me at a good time because I was only about a month old. She started training me to talk a few days after I came home and it has paid off. She gets so excited when I talk, that I love to just ramble to see her reaction. She does own other birds which are finches but I am her favorite. Her finches just had babies and that made her very happy but I keep learning more and more so that makes me the apple of her eye. I keep telling the finches, sure she's proud of you for giving her babies but come on, I can talk. The truth is I know she loves us all and that's all that matters.

I can say quite a few things----for instance I know my mommy's full name and address which I advised her not to put on the web. She does plan on telling you some of the things I say and she even has samples to show you.

Sunshine and
Periwinkle

UPDATE--MARCH 2002 Hurray.   Mommy finally got me a playmate. That's right, Sharon got a new budgie. Her name is Sunshine and she is mostly yellow with some green.   She is finger tamed and Sharon takes her out to play with me once a day.   Sharon was afraid I would stop talking when a new budgie came in but I proved her wrong.   I still talk to Mommy but I love to walk up to Sunshine and just ramble in her face and hit her beak.   I'm hoping that will get her to start talking but I know Mommy is going to have to work with her the way she worked with me. I think between the two of us we should be able to get Sunshine to say something besides all those silly budgie sounds. She's still very young so I know I cannot consider her my gilfriend until she gets older but it's fun having a playmate at least.
June 2002 Another update and another budgie. Sharon's sister Diane just got a budgie named Periwinkle.   Sharon takes us all out to play once a day. Periwinkle and I really don't get along but that's okay because I'm partial to my Sunshine and one day I hope to win her over so we can raise a family.

A note from Sharon
August 9th 2003--Today is the day I never wanted to face. My wonderful little Thistle has passed away. He became ill this morning and was taking in right away at A & A Veterinary Hospital in Franklin Square. Dr. Darby tried his best to save him but it was to late. Thank You Dr. Darby for giving it a shot. I truly appreciate it. Thistle will be missed, as he would say, "so so much". He was and always will be my baby.

Let me tell you a little about her finches. There names are faith,hope, love, charity, destiny and harmony. Sharon got into birds in February when her friends bought her 4 finches and all the accessories for her birthday. The cage was a nice size cage but she went out and bought the finches a small aviary. Since she still had the extra cage she was given for her birthday that's when she decided to buy me and I'm glad she did. Now I bet your wondering where the other names came from since she only had 4 finches. Well, as I said before, her finches had babies. Hope and Charity started a family and in August 2000 Destiny and Harmony came along. Sharon had to give the finches alot of wax worms and a special diet so that the parents would feed them and she needed to peak in the nest once in awhile to see what was going on which Hope and Charity did not like to much so they tried to build up the nest so she couldn't see in. I think it was well worth the special attention she paid to them, her newest babies are really cute but just not as cute as me.
By the way, Sharon wanted me to thank Dawn and Jo for getting her started.

In September, a friend of the family gave Sharon 8 more zebra finches. There names are Skye, Heather, Lanark, Hamilton, Scotty, Bonnie, Fawny, and Lassie. Then Fawny and Hamilton had two babies named Serenity and Rain.
