Black Manta
My custom of Aquaman's arch-enemy, Black Manta, is built on an Aquaman Base.  How ironic.  Although this figure looks great built on the Aquaman base, it is a pain in the rear to build it that way.  Since the Aquaman figure's shirt has all those scales on it, I had to grind the whole thing down smooth.  This takes alot of time and talent to do without grinding away the muscle details along with the scales.  It would probably be easier to build it on a Flash base, but I think it looks better on the Aquaman base, so it was worth the effort. As I said, I first had to grind off all the scales on Aquaman's shirt using my Dremel.  Next, I ground off Aquman's belt and brief line.  I also had to grind off his gloves and the fins on his legs.  The grinding portion of this custom takes a long time.  After I finished grinding, I sanded everything carefully, to make the areas I had ground down as smooth as possible.  Next, using Sculpey, I sculpted Manta's helmet around Aquaman's head (acually, I used a Hawkman head on the Aquaman body, since I had both of these parts left over from previous customs).  The helmet sculpt will take some patience to get right.  Next, using Sculpey, I made Manta's scuba tanks.  I then cut some thin, plastic coated wire to act as the oxygen tubes between the helmet and the tanks.  I pushed the tubes into the tank and the helmet, and the cured the Sculpey in the oven.  Finally, I primed and painted the figure and sealed it with a clear acrylic sealant..
