Carter Hall, the Golden Age Hawkman, leader of the Justice Society, is built entirely on a Hawkman base figure. The first thing I did was to cut off Hawman's helmet wings with my X-acto knife. Next, using my Dremel, I removed the details on the helmet, making it into cowl instead of a helmet. The hardest part was turning the beak of the helmet into Carter's nose. I did this using the smallest attachment on my Dremel, and lots of patience. Once this was done, I painted the head, paying careful attention to painting in Carter's eyes and painting the hawk on the cowl. I also painted over the hawk symbol on his chest, since he had a plain red circle with no insignia. Finally, I sealed the paint on with a clear acrylic sealant. A simpler way of doing this custom is to put a Flash head on a Hawkman body. I chose not to go with that method, because I felt the Flash head was out of proportion with Hawkman's body. |
