Red Star was one of my favorite heroes in the 80's. Which is weird, because I hate Communists, and he was the national super-hero of the U.S.S.R. I guess I just liked his powers. He appeared frequently in the classic New Teen Titans book in the Perez/Wolfman years. Anyway, this custom is built, believe it or not, entirely from a Martian Manhunter base. The most difficult part was Dremeling off MM's chest straps. It took quite some time to carve the chest muscles in with the Dremel. Next, I cut off the top of MM's head with my X-acto knife. Using Sculpey, I molded on Red Star's hair, gloves, goggles, collar and belt buckle. Next, I primed and painted the figure. Finally, I decoupaged on the Red Star symbol, and sealed the figure. |
