Synopsis:
32 year old heavy smoking and drinking Bridget decides that it is time to take charge of her life, and she starts a diary to track her progress.  Her opinionated nature gets her bosses attention which she has wanted.  She also realizes that another man who is more accepting of her many faults is interested as well.  Conflicts occur, yadda yadda yadda, and a resolution.

Review:
I saw a prerelease print without credits.
Bridget Jones's Diary is predictable with some laughs, but dumb, which is why the big name actors were needed and hyped.  I understand that Hollywood wasn't going to use a 200 pound woman as a lead on screen, but when they fattened up Renee with 40 pounds instead of finding any one of the many women who were already plump and could act, they admitted through action that it was a weak script.  I always get suspicious when a movie is advertised based so heavily on a few high profile cast members.  Colin Firth's character was written with him in mind to play it, so it is no surprise that he fits into it well.  Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth(Mark Darcy) don't have the on screen chemistry needed to pull off the story.  Renee and Hugh Grant(the boss) are operating on similar energy levels, and do succeed with a better screen chemistry.  Some jokes are good, but most are disappointingly basic.  In the end, I really didn't care who ended up with who, just as long as none of them reproduce.  Miss Zellweger's time with the dialect coach was well spent.  I haven't read the international best-selling book this movie was based on, but I've read that those who have, liked the movie even though much had to be left out due to time restrictions and continuity.  An entry in her diary might read "do Not pay full price for this movie!"
