This is a documentary of five people who were institutionalized as children because of developmental disabilities, and now live outside of the institution.  The most successful was Phil.  He had developed his own way of painting several paintings at once, and could manage his own life.  He was the best off of the people in the documentary.  His works were for sale after the movie, they are cherry, and they were selling.  Another was the founder of an advocacy group for those with disabilities who's real strength lay in his will power.  A woman is shown who can now take care of herself, socialize, and work at a bookstore.  A man is shown who cannot care for himself or be productive for what at first seem to be physical impairment.  A closer look into his life of 47 years in an institution reveals that the complete neglect that he has always had has robbed him of basic physical coordination and development.  The stories of repeated abuse and beatings done by the government workers is told very matter of factly by all these people.  The story is told through several different perspectives giving depth to each of the topics covered.  This will not be coming to a theater near you, but it is a story that people should know.
