South Africa
Direct Service's members in the Republic of South Africa are pleased to make available their country emblems. They have been designed in South Africa for the use of American scouts and scouters in the transforming new South Africa. The groups are happy to be able to make these insignia available to all interested individuals. These items will be mailed through our agents in America.

DS-South Africa F-1 The newest in the DS-South Africa series is the TA3 commemorating the international Wood Badge course held at Gilsprings Scout Centre near Port Elizabeth during 2003. The group have also designed and produced the T2 shoulder emblem recognizing Lord Baden-Powell and Mafikeng South Africa as the Genesis of Scouting. The spelling, MAFIKENG, is current and correct. This item was intended to be a perpetual fundraiser but has become one of two regular uniform wear items. The first in the series, the S1, is now readily available. An Order of the Arrow pocket flap is also available. The T-2, TA-3 and pocket flap are produced locally in South Africa. All these items are mailed through the group's agent in San Diego, California.

As with other similar badges, proceeds in excess of expenses are directed to be used for the groups' scouting activities. A portion of the proceeds will also go to the World Friendship Fund and other scouting projects in South Africa. The price is $7.00/each plus $.50 postage.

Payment may be made via cheque or Paypal. Paypal to scouts_alex@hotmail.com. Cheques should be sent to:

Notes:
No political statement is intended to be read into the use of any design, colors, or text. The badges simply serve to identify the community and membership in scouting. These insignia were developed by and for a local BSA scout grouping in an overseas situation to foster community identity and pride in scouting. They are neither approved nor disapproved by the Direct Service Center. None of these items are available from the Direct Service BSA program's office in Irving, Texas.

The index numbers are our own and subject to changes by authors of the various collecting guides. We don't work for them and they don't work for us. They are nice people just as we are.

Questions should be directed to Philip Abbey at scouts_alex@hotmail.com.
