A Railfan Destination?

Nay Aug Park

Nay Aug Park is by no means a new addition to the Scranton department of Parks & Recreation.  However, several new attractions make this perhaps the best-kept railfan secret in town.

New Overlook Makes for Great Train Watching...

The 2004 reconstruction of the "Davis Trail" overlooking the Nay Aug Gorge includes this dramatic train watching spot.  Here we see a line of inbound plastic cars staged on the DL's "Reciever Track".

Old Anthracite Relics...

Near the Everhart Museum in Nay Aug Park, these old mine cars have been re constructed and sit near the long-closed "Brooks Model Coal Mine".  Not far away sits a genuine Pensylvania Gravity Coach.

Historic Miniature Train to Return...

For decades, a miniature version of the Lackawanna Railroad's "Phoebe Snow" encircled part of Nay Aug Park.  It was removed in the late 80's and moved several times before winding up in Florida.  Having been extensively rebuilt and returned to Scranton, it is stored in a warehouse pending construction of a new quarter size railroad later this summer.  The train is similar to the one to the left, being manufactured by the Allen Herschell Co. in the late 1950's  More info to come once the train is in operation
