12:00:01 A.M.
{A man inside an old run down building is being tortured. These people want him to say something but he remains quite.}
WOMEN: Talk and the pain will stop.........(to MAN) Stop that's too much.
MAN: The dose is correct.
{They turn up the heat as the man being tortured can't take it any more. He whispers something to the women. She relates it back to the man in Korean. The man runs to the back of the building where United States officials are waiting.}
OFFICIAL: When?
MAN: Today!

{President David Palmer and his son Keith are fishing in the middle of the lake.}
PRESIDENT PALMER: Wish Nicole could of come, she loves it out here.
KEITH PALMER: Yeah.
PRESIDENT PALMER: What do you want to do tonight?
KEITH PALMER: I don't know, get a movie?
PRESIDENT PALMER: You came all this way just to watch a video......How's your mom?
KEITH PALMER: Who knows? I mean she puts on a happy face for everyone, but I know she's hurting.
{The President's security agent receives a heads up on his radio}
PRESIDENT PALMER: What is it Mike?
AGENT: There's a situation Mr. President.

THE MATHESON'S HOUSE
{Nine year old Megan Matheson runs into Kim's bedroom in the Matheson house and playfully hides under the covers from her father Gary Matheson.}
KIM BAUER: Hey, excuse me what are you doing in my bed?
MEGAN MATHESON: I'm hiding from daddy.
{Gary Matherson walks in}
KIM BAUER: Oh, hi.
GARY NATHESON: Hey, Kim. You haven't seen Megan around have ya?
KIM BAUER: Well I don't know, what does she look like?
GARY MATHESON: Big wart on the tip of her nose.
{Megan comes out of hiding}
MEGAN MATHESON: I do not.
GARY MATHERSON: Oh there you are.
{Megan runs away downstairs}
GARY MATHESON: How do you keep up with her all day?
KIM BAUER: It's not easy.
{Gary stares seductively at Kim in her sleep wear.}
{Megan yells}
MEGAN MATHESON: Ok try to find me!
GARY MATHESON: Be right there.
{Gary leaves as Kim doesn't know what to think of that.}

{As a group of advisors whisk President Palmer back to the car he apologizes to Keith about cutting their time short.}
JENNY: Rayburn is waiting for us back at the O.C. sir.
KEITH PALMER: I'll see you back at the retreat dad.
PRESIDENT PALMER: Woah, look son.....I'm sorry.
KEITH PALMER: Don't be, it's not your fault. I just miss hanging out with you.
PRESIDENT PALMER: I know. But we'll get there.
KEITH PALMER: See ya later.
{They take Keith away}
JENNY: I know how bad you wanted to spend time with him Sir, I'm sorry.
PRESIDENT PALMER: How bad's the situation?
JENNY: I haven't been fully detailed yet but I don't have a good feeling. To my knowledge no President has ever been rerouted on his morning off.

INT. C.T.U. MAIN FLOOR
{At CTU, new programmer Paula Schaffer apprises Tony Almeida and Mason on her software upgrades}
PAULA SCHAFFER: Oh I didn't know who you liked, Intel presented and imprompted?
TONY ALMEIDA: Ah, I really don't care.
{Paula hands Tony a disk}
TONY ALMEIDA: Thanks Paula.
PAULA SCAHFFER: Hi Mr Mason.
GEORGE MASON: Yeah.
PAULA SCHAFFER: I ordered upgrades on all the same software if you don't mind.
GEORGE MASON: Fine.
PAULA SCHAFFER: They just went from beta to production and like I just thought you wanted us to…
GEORGE MASON: Paula....you're trying to hard.
{Paula goes back to her desk.}
GEORGE MASON: What do you need?
TONY ALMEIDA: Division wants us to put a meeting in the books for next month.
GEORGE MASON: For what?
TONY ALMEIDA: They want to see our proposal on the LA security upgrades.
GEORGE MASON: Tony, tell ya what, if I'm still here by this time next year, take me out to the wood shed and shot me. I'm supposed to be in DC by now, not chasing little old ladies who set off metal detectors.
TONY ALMEIDA: What about the morning of the 15th?
GEORGE MASON: Fine.
{Staffer Michelle Dessler interrupts with a request from N.S.A.}
MICHELLE DESSLER: Mr. Mason?
GEORGE MASON: Yes.
MICHELLE DESSLER: I just got off the phone with Eric Rayburn's office from N.S.A. They have a request sir, they want you to take care of it right away.
{George looks at the paper}
GEORGE MASON: This can't be right. I want you to get me Rayburn's office. Put it in my office.
{George walks to his office}
TONY ALMEIDA: What was that all about?
MICHELLE DESSLER: N.S.A. wants us to bring in Jack Bauer.
TONY ALMEIDA: What? What for?
MICHELLE DESSLER: I don't know that's all they said. Isn't Bauer inactive?
TONY ALMEIDA: Yeah, he's inactive.
FADE OUT::::
{The camera shows the unkempt and unshaven Jack Bauer look around and then climb into his SUV and take off}
EXT. NORTHWEST REGIONAL OPERATIONS CENTER
{As President Palmer is rushed in doors he is met by N.S.A. staffer Eric Rayburn}
PRESIDENT PALMER: What's this about Eric?
ERIC RAYBURN: We have a domestic terrorist alert.
PRESIDENT PALMER: How serious?
ERIC RAYBURN: Very!
PRESIDENT PALMER: Has Lynne been informed?
ERIC RAYBURN: She's here.
PRESIDENT PALMER: Who else?
ERIC RAYBURN: There are representatives from all branches of the military as well as some FBI and CIA.
{Eric and the President reach the main conference room}
PRESIDENT PALMER: Gentlemen, Lynne. Good Morning.
{Palmer sits down}
ERIC RAYBURN: Mr. President what I'm about to tell you is triple sourced.
PRESIDENT PALMER: Go on.
ERIC RAYBURN: There is a nuclear device under terrorist control that's on US soil.
LYNNE: My God!
PRESIDENT PALMER: Where?
ERIC RAYBURN: Los Angeles. It gets worse. This bomb is going to go off today.
PRESIDENT PALMER: How do we know this?
ERIC RAYBURN: {Shows photo on the screen} This suicide bomber is Mahmud Rashed Faheen. A terrorist who we believe has been involved with countless fundamentalist groups.
LYNNE: Is that the bombing in the west bank?
ERIC RAYBURN: Yes. Two days ago we were led to believe that the purpose of this bombing was for us to think Faheed was killed.
PRESIDENT PALMER: He wasn't?
ERIC RAYBURN: No.....{Shows another picture} This was taken five days ago outside a small airport in France. The man on the left Jason Park. We had him under surveillance. It happens to be that we caught the very much alive Faheen in the photo. When we grabbed Park we tried to extract everything we could out of him. About fifteen minutes ago he broke and confessed that for two years Faheen has been planning today's attack on Los Angeles.
LYNNE: Why didn't you pick up Faheen the same time as Park?
ERIC RAYBURN: This picture wasn't analyzed until after the two had separated. I've contacted defense, CIA, FBI Everything will be run through N.S.A.
PRESIDENT PALMER: Who controls Faheen?
ERIC RAYBURN: A relatively new splinter group that goes by the name of Second Wave.
PRESIDENT PALMER: Government affiliation?
ERIC RAYBURN: They are not recognized by any of the middle eastern states.
PRESIDENT PALMER: Get me their Prime Minister.
LYNNE: Yes sir.

{Carla Matheson Megan's mother carefully prepares breakfast for her husband Gary.}
CARLA MATHESON: Gary your breakfast is ready, don't let it get cold.
GARY MATHESON: You off?
CARLA MATHESON: Yeah, coffee's ready. I cut some grapefruit and I bought some scones.
GARY MATHESON: You look good today. I'll see ya tonight all right.
CARLA MATHESON: Okay.
{Gary grabs some coffee}
GARY MATHESON: You know Kim you got a great body, you work out?
KIM BAUER: Ah, no. Not really. I like to swim.
FADE OUT:::
{President Palmer has the Prime Minister on the phone}
PRESIDENT PALMER: Mr. Prime Minister.
PRIME MINISTER: Mr. President.
PRESIDENT PALMER: What can you tell me about a terrorist organization called Second Wave?
PRIME MINISTER: Of course I have heard of them. Our Government rejects all their methods.
PRESIDENT PALMER: Then how do explain their camps inside your country?
PRIME MINISTER: There are no terrorist camps in my country.
PRESIDENT PALMER: Mr. Prime Minister I know two things. One, second wave is planning an attack on one of my cities today and two, your government supports second wave.
PRIME MINISTER: I would appreciate it if you stop using my people and my country as every threat leveled at the United States.
PRESIDENT PALMER: What I'm saying is not meant to be a threat just a statement of fact. If a bomb goes off on US soil today, I will have no choice but to respond.
PRIME MINISTER: This is an outrage. We are not planning to attack the United States.
PRESIDENT PALMER: Outrage or not if you care for the lives of your people, you better hear me loud and clear. Mr. Prime Minister, if a bomb goes off today, it will hurt us but it will destroy you.
PRIME MINISTER: Then Mr. President, you will have created an enemy of over 1/3 of the world's population.........Proceed carefully.
PRESIDENT PALMER: You as will sir.
{They both hang up}

{As Megan plays in the front yard with Kim, Jack watches her from in his car. His cell rings and it's someone from CTU Mason's office}
JACK BAUER: Bauer....who's this?........No I don't work for CTU anymore.....I'm in the middle of something {Hangs up}
{Jack walks up the driveway to Kim}
KIM BAUER: Megan why don't you play in the back I'll be there in a minute.
{Megan goes to the back}
KIM BAUER: Dad.....what are you doing here?
JACK BAUER: Just came by to say hi. Look sweetheart I didn't come by to take you to lunch or hang out. I miss you.
KIM BAUER: I know. I miss you too dad.
JACK BAUER: Then why won't you…
KIM BAUER: Every time I see you I think of mom.
JACK BAUER: Honey all I ever wanted to do is have the three of us together, I did every thing I could.
KIM BAUER: Dad.
{They hug}
JACK BAUER: I love you.
KIM BAUER: I'm still not ready yet.
JACK BAUER: Then when?
KIM BAUER: I don't know.......Look I got to go.....
{Kim walks back to Megan}

INT. THE O.C. {PRESIDENTS OFFICE}
{Eric Rayburn enters the President's office}
ERIC RAYBURN: You wanted to see me.
PRESIDENT PALMER: This report seems to be missing a casualty assessment.
ERIC RAYBURN: I'm having those numbers analyzed they will be ready in about ten minuets.
PRESIDENT PALMER: All right. Thank you Eric.
ERIC RAYBURN: If I may sir.....I think you need to have a serious conversation with the Pentagon.
PRESIDENT PALMER: It's too early to discuss a response. We don't even know who to retaliate against.
ERIC RAYBURN: You know the Prime Minister was lying.
PRESIDENT PALMER: Yes he was lying about the terrorist camps. Somewhere in the city of Los Angeles there is a terrorist with his finger on a trigger and we got to get him.

{A middle eastern man is in his flashy sports car pulling into the driveway of the Warner house. This man is Reza. As Reza walks to the house, he is greeted by his soon to be wife Marie Warner. 8:22:13, 8:22:14, 8:22:15,
REZA: Hello there.
MARIE WARNER: Hey sweetheart.
{They kiss as Marie's sister Kate Warner walks out of the side door and up to them.}
KATE WARNER: Hey you two, cut it out.
REZA: What, can't kiss my own wife?
KATE WARNER: She's not your wife for another ten hours.. {to Marie} Andre's on the phone.
MARIE WARNER: Why is there a problem with the flowers?
KATE WARNER: I don't know.
MARIE WARNER: God. {Marie walks away}
KATE WARNER: Woo.. Sorry about that.
REZA: So ah where are the tables?
KATE WARNER: Well there not even here yet. I thought you where picking your cousin up.
REZA: I sent a car.
KATE WARNER: Oh, cab?
REZA: No, the company car.
{Marie and Kate's father Bob Warner walks out of the house}
REZA: Bob.
BOB WARNER: There's the groom.
REZA: Let me give you a hand.
BOB WARNER: No, no I got it.
REZA: I told Marie I'd help her fix the fountain. Lets get too it.
{Reza walks to the back yard}
KATE WARNER: Dad, did you tell Reza he could use the company car?
BOB WARNER: Please Kate, not today.
KATE WARNER: Sorry. Every now and then fine but there's the condo in Palm Springs the days off.
BOB WARNER: How come you can't trust Reza? I mean I can't believe it's because he's from the middle east.
KATE WARNER: Dad, You brought me up better then that.....I don't know, it's something else.
BOB WARNER: What?
KATE WARNER: I don't know. Maybe I'm just having a hard time letting go of my sister.
BOB WARNER: I do miss your mother so much today. {They hug} She'd be so proud of both of you.

INT. THE O.C. SPILT SCREEN OF RAYBURN AND MASON
RAYBURN: Rayburn.
GEORGE MASON: Eric it's George again.
ERIC RAYBURN: What can I do for you George?
GEORGE MASON: Not a lot. I haven't been able to reach Bauer. You want to tell me what this is about?
ERIC RAYBURN: Your office will be briefed shortly in the meantime just find him and bring him in.
GEORGE MASON: Look to be honest with you I don't think he wants to be found.
ERIC RAYBURN: Look just find him. We need this guy now. I can't believe you guys can't bring in one former agent.
GEORGE MASON: I'll tell you how you can get a hold of Bauer.
ERIC RAYBURN: I'm listening.
GEORGE MASON: You're with the President right?
ERIC RAYBURN: Yeah that's right...

{The phone is ringing but Jack does not pick it up.}
{Answering machine} {It's Tony}
TONY ALMEIDA: Jack, it's Tony Almeida over at CTU could you please give us a call. It's really important.
{Jack grabs a photo of his wife and Kim and lays on the couch as the phone rings again}
{It's a operator for the President. Jack answers. }
JACK BAUER: Hello.
OPERATOR: Mr. Bauer?
JACK BAUER: Yes.
OPERATOR: Please hold for the President. Sir I have Jack Bauer.
PRESIDENT PALMER: Jack.
JACK BAUER: Mr. President.
PRESIDENT PALMER: I know you have been avoiding CTU's calls this morning.
JACK BAUER: I don't work for them anymore sir.
PRESIDENT PALMER: So I hear......How's it all going Jack?
JACK BAUER: It's been difficult sir.
PRESIDENT PALMER: I'm sure it has......I thought a lot about you this past year.
JACK BAUER: Thank you sir.
PRESIDENT PALMER: Jack I know this is a bad time but I need your help.
JACK BAUER: Sir I have been inactive for over a year, I can't see how I'd be help for anyone.
PRESIDENT PALMER: We are in a grave situation that requires all branches of are national security. My advisors are convinced that you can play an important part in this effort.
JACK BAUER: Mr President I'm sorry but I'm in no condition…
PRESIDENT PALMER: JACK. I know you suffered a loss, I know it's hard but this is not a regular request. Go to CTU, listen to what's happening, then make your decision. Jack.........you saved my life. I trust you as much as I trust anyone and now I need your help.
JACK BAUER: When do they need me?
PRESIDENT PALMER: Now.......................

CARLA MATHESON: No, Gary likes things done in a specific way, sorry. Hey could you take Megan upstairs to play?
KIM BAUER: Sure.
CARLA MATHESON: Thanks.
INT. C.T.U. MAIN FLOOR, TONY'S DESK
MICHELLE DESSLER: You looked at your system in the last five minutes?
TONY ALMEIDA: No what's up?
MICHELLE DESSLER: Langley issued a information flow advisory. Something's going on. Whatever it is it's going to be interagency.
{MASON WALKS DOWN HIS STAIRS}
GEORGE MASON: Alright, heads up, I need all department heads over here right now................Just got off a conference call with N.S.A. and Division. There's a nuclear bomb under terrorist control right here in Los Angeles and it's set to go off sometime today. So from this point on we do not talk to anyone outside our secured envelope. We don't talk to friends. Our job is to find this device and stop it. We do not want to create panic.
{The President learns that over 100,000,000 people would be killed and have global repercussions if the bomb were to go off over Los Angeles.}
INT. WAREHOUSE OUTSIDE OF LOS ANGELES
{A man enters the warehouse and is greeted by another man. They walk over to the center of the floor where the nuclear bomb is being worked on.}
TERRORIST#1: When will the bomb be ready?
TERRORIST#2: Soon.

INT. C.T.U.
{Jack Bauer enters the building wearing a CTU visitor badge. Everyone stares at him as if he were a ghost, then he is greeted by Tony.}
JACK BAUER: Tony.
TONY ALMEIDA: Hey Jack.
JACK BAUER: Where's George?
TONY ALMEIDA: He's waiting for you inside the conference room.
{Jack glances at his old office and walks to the conference room}
INT. C.T.U. CONFRENCE ROOM
GEORGE MASON: Jack. Everyone, Jack Bauer
JACK BAUER: What am I doing here George?
GEORGE MASON: There's a rouge nuclear weapon here in Los Angeles Jack. Intel says it's going off today.
JACK BAUER: How good's your Intel?
GEORGE MASON: Very good. NSA did the groundwork. They have high leads on regional cells that could be connected to today's attack.
{Jack runs out of the room}
GEORGE MASON: Where ya going Jack? Jack!
{Jack calls Kim}
KIM BAUER: Hello.
JACK BAUER: Honey listen to me.
KIM BAUER: Dad I told you I'm not ready.
JACK BAUER: Kim this is not about us......They called me back to CTU and gave me some information. Kim you have to leave Los Angeles now.
KIM BAUER: Dad no, if you're going back to work fine but I don't want to hear it.
JACK BAUER: Kim I'm not going back to work
{Kim hangs up}
{Jack tries again but gets Kim's voice mail}
{Jack walks toward the entrance}
TONY ALMEIDA: Jack wait up.
JACK BAUER: I don't have time for this!
TONY ALMEIDA: Listen Jack, the reason you were called in is because it's a background match. You're the only one who can run with this.
JACK BAUER: I don't care. Look I trusted everyone at CTU to protect my wife and I lost her.
TONY ALMEIDA: I know Jack. I was there.
JACK BAUER: I can't lose my daughter Tony. I'm sorry. {He leaves}
{Jack climbs in his SUV and sees a mother and her son walking down the street and realizes what could happen if this bomb does go off.}
GEORGE MASON: Great Almeida. Now what?
TONY ALMEIDA: Back off George. Lets just regroup and figure out what we're going to do.
MICHELLE DESSLER: Look, maybe there's another way to find Wald.
GEORGE MASON: Gee why didn't I think of that. I bet you're right, I bet NSA had us try to bring in a burnt out agent for the challenge. We're going to call NSA now.
{Bauer walks back in}
JACK BAUER: Here's the deal, I want Knoll or Grothy to pick up my daughter and take her a safe distance away.
GEORGE MASON: Done.
JACK BAUER: I also want an update on her status at all times by Tony. I'm sorry George I just don't trust you.
GEORGE MASON: Well you'll have to start. What we're up against today none of us can walk away from.
Tony and I will both take care of Kim.
JACK BAUER: Tell me about the regional cells.
MICHELLE DESSLER: The most promising one is headed by Joseph Wald.
JACK BAUER: Wald?
GEORGE MASON: Yeah Wald's been linked to a terror group named Second Wave. You did time with him didn't you?
JACK BAUER: I put him in jail George. What's Wald's connection to the bomb?
GEORGE MASON: NSA established meetings between him and the terrorist group.
JACK BAUER: Are there any key witnesses in his upcoming trial?
PAULA SCHAFFER: There's one. Martial Goren. Apparently without him there's no trail.
JACK BAUER: Good bring him in.
GEORGE MASON: Here?
JACK BAUER: You want me to reestablish my cover with Wald right? Normally it takes six months, you want me to do this in what under two hours. Bring him in.

{Kate hires a private investigator to track Reza. The investigator tells Kate that Reza has had terrorist dealings with a international terrorist named Syed Ali.}

{Martial Goren is being brought into the conference room. He sits down as Jack asks Michelle to leave. She exits}
JACK BAUER: You are Martial Goren?
MARTIAL GOREN: Yes.
JACK BAUER: Eight counts kidnapping a minor, two counts child pornography.
MARTIAL GOREN: Yeah, hey look I already made my deal. I testify against Wald and I walk.
[Jack pulls out his gun and blasts a bullet through Goren's heart}
GEORGE MASON: OH GOD........JACK ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?
JACK BAUER: YOU WANNA FIND THIS BOMB, THIS IS WHAT IT'S GOING TO TAKE!
GEORGE MASON: Killing a witness?
JACK BAUER: That's a funny thing about people like you, you don't want to get your hands dirty. I suggest you start rolling up your sleeves.............I'm gonna need a hacksaw.

INT. MATHESON HOUSE
{Megan is playing in her room as Kim is working on some paper and they hear Gary yelling at Carla}
{From downstairs}
GARY MATHESON: CARLA ARE YOU A COMPLETE IDIOT? {He hits her}
CARLA MATHESON: I'M SORRY {Gary hits her again as he walks to Megan's room but the door is locked}
GARY MATHESON: Megan you in there sweetie?
KIM BAUER: Ah, just a minute Gary, we're in the bathroom.
GARY MATHESON: What?
{Kim opens the door with a towel on Megan's head}
KIM BAUER: Sorry Megan's going through a modest stage, no boys allowed.
GARY MATHESON: You didn't hear anything?
KIM BAUER: Hear what?
GARY MATHESON: Carla had a little accident. She fell.
KIM BAUER: She okay?
GARY MATHESON: She's fine...Tell ya what go downstairs and see if she needs help.
KIM BAUER: But I…
GARY MATHESON: I just need a few minutes alone with my daughter before I go to work.
KIM BAUER: I don't…
GARY MATHESON: I JUST TOLD YOU TO GO! {Gary pushes her down}
MEGAN MATHESON: {Crying} MOMMY!
GARY MATHESON: I'm sorry Megan......Megan, Shut up Megan.....SHUT UP! {He throws Megan down as she bangs her head}
{Gary's phone rings}
