Bay Thoroughbred mare 1994 BB Gold was born in Oklahoma, and from what we can tell, never raced. We don’t know exactly what happened in the intervening years, but we know BB was brought to New England, sold at a local auction and eventually donated to SCR. At one point she was adopted, but she came back to us because, due to health problems, BB's owner was forced to give her up. In her own words, "I love her to death, but [due to a back injury] I'll never be able to ride like I once did." It was also relayed to us that "she needs a strong rider and to be challenged. She's too smart for an inexperienced person!" BB is a sweet mare who has been out of work for a while. We have started working her into a regular exercise program, but it will take some time to get her back into shape. We believe she has a lot of potential as a show horse, but will need a strong rider looking for a project. From what we can tell, she just seems to have lost her "work ethic". Every time we ride her she is just a little bit better, but it will take lots of consistent work, correction, and praise at her forever home to bring out the superstar in her. We were told that she did have some faults when she came to us, but we have slowly worked them out. For example, we were told she not cross-tie, something which she now accepts. She was being ridden in a bitless bridle – we were told her mouth was overly sensitive – but she accepts a snaffle bit. We were told she did not like lifting her hooves, but patience and understanding on everyone’s part (including the farrier) have won her over. She will still need some work on loading into the trailer, but with all that she has overcome, we feel that she can certainly improve in that area as well. As of right now, she will be starting a trial foster period with a potential new "mom". We wish them the best of luck together, and hope this is a permanent match. |
