Description: Samantha escapes and tries to contact her long lost family Revelations Part 1: Carpe Diem
She looked back, making sure there was no one following her. She carefully pushed down the handle and gently pushed the door open, keeping the creak volume to a bare minimum. She did the same on the other side and entered the room. She was finally in, for the first time in her life. Tears flooded her eyes. The thought of finally leading a normal life brought back memories of years ago. When she was loved by a family.
She rushed to the computer and saw a machine that she had never used before, but had seen people use. She looked up at the screen, it was covered in black but had the words "Please Enter Password" dead center of the screen. Just under was a text-box and a gray box saying "LOG IN". She reached for the right pocket in her jeans. She took out a torn piece of notepad paper and scribbled on it were the words: "COOPER TENSER".
She looked for "C" on the keyboard. The pushed it hard and she saw a "*" come up on the text-box. She wasn't sure why, but soon it hit her when she typed in the "O" that this was the coding used to hide the actual password from peering eyes over the user's shoulder.
Once she had typed in the word, she realised that she should use the mouse to click on the box saying "LOG IN". Then came up underneath, another box. At the top it said, "Checking password..." and below was a white box with a red block moving across. Once the block had completely covered the white box, the words above became, "Checking password...GRANTED...Please wait". She waited nervously until the screen changed completely. There were many options. She browsed through with the mouse and found "Census". She clicked on the option and the cursor changed into what represented a sand-timer. The normal arrow came back and a new lot of options. They were the states and they were in alphabetical order. She scanned through them all until she came to "Massachusetts". She clicked on it and waited. The next screen was full of text-boxes. She filled them in, as quickly as she could.
Last Name: MULDER
Address: 2790 VINE STREET
Town: CHILMARK
State: MASSACHUSETTS
Census
Entr(y/ies)
e.g. 1890 -
1990: 1970-2000
The tears kept coming back as she typed in the letters, one-by-one. She clicked on the search button. Then came up a screen with all the Mulders to have inhabited that address since 1970. The first entry was the details of "Mulder, William Fredrick." She scrolled down and saw the words: "(deceased - assassinated by unknown)".
"Daddy!" she whispered and cried quietly.
She continued scrolling down and then came to "Mulder, Tena Margerie". She scrolled down and came to those dreadful words that she though would never affect her family. "Divorce to Mulder W.F. - 1974". That was a year after she had last seen them. She continued to sob and even more when she came to "(deceased - suicide)".
She scrolled down and found "Mulder, Fox William". He was still alive and he was unmarried and he worked for the FBI. She then saw telephone numbers and new address and copied them down on the back to the piece of notepad paper with the password with a pencil also from her pocket. She then clicked on the "Log Off" box at the top right-hand corner of the screen and answered all the "are u sure" questions. She got up of the twisting chair and carefully approached a telephone on the other side of the room. It was the first time that she had ever dialed anything on these new button telephones and pushed the buttons carefully and a sound came out of the other end. Nobody responded so she dialed the second number, which was somewhat different in anatomy to the first one. After two tones, someone answered.
"Mulder," the voice said. A real man's voice. Different to the annoying, breaking voice of years ago. She couldn't reply. "Mulder," the voice repeated.
"Fox?" she asked.
"Yeah."
She began to sob again. "Hello?" the voice asked.
"Fox, it's...me...Samantha."
There was a pause.
"What?"
"Oh, Fox. It's me," she continued to cry.
"Samantha?"
"Yes."
"Where are you?"
"I don't know. I'm in a place, 51 metres 51º west of Roswell."
"What?"
"I've been there for the last 27 years. I'm trying to get out..." she said until she felt and big arm around her neck, strangling her. She dropped the phone and she wrestled the man as all she could say were choking noises. But she could hear more. On the line, she could here Fox. "Samantha! Samantha!" And as the could not take any more she fell and all she could see was Fox shouting those very same words, aged 13 years old.
