[ A Step back in Time ]
Rating: R for sexual situations
Category: VH
Spoilers: none really. I put a few allusions to previous episodes but that’s it.
Distribution: Anywhere
Summary: Mulder has something weird happen to him...has he met Scully before?
Disclaimer: Obviously Mulder and Scully are not my creations but are CC’s - the wonderful creator of my happiness. However, Lindsay, Brett, and Marty are my creations sothere!

Author’s note: I have never written a fanfic before so please be gentle - I tried my best and if it really sucks then I’m sorry... I got this idea while in study hall pretending to do my sociology homework and I rather enjoyed writing it. I know I don’t have as much poetic flare as some of you do - I guess I’ll have to keep working at it. I dedicate this to Cass and Jen because they are the coolest people and listen to me whine all the time.

STEP BACK IN TIME by Eleanor Aked

Mulder, panting, chased the killers through the dark warehouse. He could see Scully running behind him, gun in hand. Suddenly, he felt a sharp shooting pain through his chest. Clutching his bleeding chest he slowly sank to the floor, crying out to Scully. As he turned, one of the killers dropped a huge brick off the top of a crate, knocking him unconscious.

He entered the high school gym, looking at the green and white streamer hanging from the ceiling. A nervous flush passed through his body and wiped his sweaty hands on his pants. A banner across the wall read " Happy Holidays, 1979!" He walked over to his group of geekyfriends.

"Hey Mulder, you gonna dance with a girl tonight?" asked Marty, his equally dorky best friend. He adjusted his suspenders and fiddled with his polyester shirt cuffs.
" Umm...probably not. You know the only reason we come to these dances is because we get paid to do the cleaning up after." he answered. Mulder surveyed the room, noting the cliques of different kids. In the one corner were the "druggies", the ones that only came to try and trash the place and had an extensive vocabulary using words such as "dude" and " totally" when they weren’t too stoned. In the center, were the jocks or the "athletes" as they preferred to be called. hanging on their arms were the cheerleaders or the prettiest girls. And there, in his little circle were the cliché nerds. He hated being classed as this but there was nothing he could do about it. Even though he was a pretty good basketball player and he didn’t even wear glasses, he lost all credibility in Junior High when he made the mistake of telling everyone about the abduction of his sister. Ever since then, he was labeled as "weird" and "alien-freak" and various other names that weren't so nice.

His eyes came to focus on Brett Hanson, the quarterback. Needless to say, his girlfriend, Lindsay, was all over him. Next to them stood a pretty, petite red-head, who looked rather uncomfortable. She was timidly peering out from behind them, watching the other kids dancing. Lindsay caught Mulder eyeing the girl.

"Hey, Fox, isn't it?" Lindsay walked over to him, her arm around the girl's shoulder.
"Umm...yeah." he blushed. He felt distinctly embarrassed, wishing he had kept his eyes to himself, and wanted to go home.
" Well, like, this is my cousin, Dana Scully. She goes to an all-girls catholic school. She doesn't get out much as you can probably tell. She's into all that science-y stuff, y'know? Like, you two should talk, get to know each other." she pushed Dana forwards. "God knows she needs to. Give me some time with Brett..."she said under her breath. Lindsay waltzed off to her group, leaving Dana and Fox staring at eachother.

" Err...hi." he said to her. "Jeez, that was lame." he thought to himself.
Not looking at him, she replied. "Hmm...yeah. Hi."

Beads of sweat began to form on his forehead, as he desperately racked his brains trying to think of what to say next. " I um, like your dress." he complimented. He looked down at her blue dress. It was a beautiful sea-green that matched her penetrating eyes. It had spaghetti straps, which she had covered with a cardigan, and came quite high up her thighs. Her long auburn hair was parted on the side with a butterfly barrette.
"Thank you." she blushed. "I don't usually wear dresses quite this short but Lindsay insisted that I wear it. I only ever normally get to wear my school uniform, so this is quite a change for me."
" Well, I for one, rather like it being so short. You should take off your cardigan and show your beautiful porcelain skin. I mean of course your shoulders. " Now it was his turn to blush. He was never normally this forward. His openness quite took him by surprise. "Here, let me help you." He carefully took her cardigan from her shoulders. His hand brushed her flawless smooth skin, sending shivers down both their spines. "Put it on my chair, it'll be quite safe here."

After she had put her cardigan down, he asked her if he could get her a drink.
"Sure, I'd love one." she answered. She watched him walk over to the drinks table. He was a tall, handsome guy. His hair had an adorable way of curling on either side of his gorgeous face. However, it was his eyes that caught her most attention: they looked kind and loving, but yet they also looked as if there was a deep, dark secret lurking inside them.
" So Dana," handing her drink to her." what are your hobbies? What are you interested in?"
She thought for a moment. "Well, I love biology. I love to see what's inside...maybe someday I'll become a biologist or something. Or a vet or a doctor."
Mulder looked sick for a moment at the thought of cutting things up. "So, er, are you going to college to study biology next year?"
Dana uncomfortably looked at her feet. "Well, maybe not next year exactly but at some point yes." She didn't want him to know that there was three years between them. "As for hobbies, I guess I don't really have any. I love dogs though, and I take my dog out for a run everymorning."
"That's cool. Yeah, I like to play basketball. I'm not bad on the court you know. I love the Knicks- they rock!" he answered enthusiastically.
"The Knicks, yeah, their third baseman is great!"
"Umm...the Knicks are....oh nevermind." he mumbled.
"So what do you want to do at college, Fox?" she asked.
"Oh please, just call me Mulder. I even made my parents call me that. I'm probably gonna go into criminal law. Or become a police officer. Or one of those cool guys that have badges and get to carry guns and stuff. You know what I mean Dana?"
"If we're going to be friends - please call me Scully. Oh and by the way, I think those "cool guys" are called FBI agents." she laughed.

The lights on the dance floor dimmed to a romantic mood and the song "Walking In Memphis" came on, to which couples began to dance to slowly in the middle of the room.

"Um, Scully? Would you care to dance? I mean, I'm not very good at it, but I'm sure you could help me out." he looked at her with a hopeful glance.
"Sure, I would love to. Although, I have to admit - I'm not exactly the world champion at dancing either so don't expect any miracles." she said, taking his hand.

The two moved to the outside of the dance floor. Mulder glanced over at his friends to see what they were doing ; Marty gave a thumbs up sign to him, at which Mulder rolled his eyes. He put his arms gently around Scully's waist and began to sway slightly. The music was the only thing he could hear; it seemed to be inside of them, somehow connecting their emotions. He felt a strange sense of deja vu dancing to this song - he pushed the notion out of his head, he surely hadn't done this before, right?

Scully breathed in Mulder's cologne and let out a small sigh of happiness. This was the first time she had ever danced with a guy before- back at her school, girls had only dreamed about it, no-one had actually done it.

He ran his fingers up and down her back and played with her silky hair. She smelt so sweet, like a blossoming flower. As the music progressed, they gradually inched closer and closer. It was as if the song had some special sort of magic that pulled them together. Neither of them ever wanted the moment to end.

The music fades and a fast song was played. Mulder grabbed her hand and began to lead her out of the gym.

"Come on. Let's go outside for a walk." he suggested.
"But Mulder, it's the middle of December! It's freezing outside! Let me at least grab my cardigan." She picked it up and put it on. A blast of frigid air greeted them as they pushed open the doors. Walking hand in hand, they proceeded down the school's driveway and onto the track. "Mulder, why are we all the way out here?"
"Because Scully, I feel I have to tell you something. I've never felt this way before. I've only known you for a few hours but I feel like I've known you for ages. Almost as if we have met before, but under different circumstances. I feel so close to you, I could tell you everything and you would understand." He stroked her hand and traced the contours of her faces. The bright beam of the moon highlighted her cheekbones, making her seem like a transparent illusion.
"Mulder, I ..." she began.
"Shhh..." he whispered. He places his lips on hers and drew her closer. Their tongues entwined, wrapping themselves between each other. Her hands moved over his well-developed muscles and down his washboard stomach. She felt his bulge against her as she tenderly kissed his neck. His hair felt soft and his hairline became moist. His hands roamed over her curves and felt her nipples harden through her thindress.

Even though the wind was blowing bitterly, their body heat kept them warm. Mulder took his jacket off and draped it around her shoulders. He moved his hand up her soft thigh, meeting her underwear and pantyhose waistband. She caught her breath for a moment and let him rhythmically move his hand in and out of her.

"Mulder...I..." she gasped. She threw her head back and caught a glimpse of the stars. A smile crept across her serious face. He watched her receive his touch and smiled back at her.
"My god, Scully. You are the most beautiful creature ever put here on this earth! You are so perfect; every inch of you was made with the ultimate care and precision." he whispered. He sensed that she wanted more so he gently pushed her on the wet grass. He lifted up her dress, one hand still inside of her. She unhooked her bra as his tongue started to circle her nipples. He gently sucked on each one, making her grip on his shoulder tighten and her breathing became heavier. He suddenly felt her juices flow on his fingertips. He stroked her hair as she beamed at him a smile that could light up the world.
"I think I love you Dana Scully." he proclaimed. At this point her face started to go blurry.
"What did you say, Mulder?" he heard her say. Her body drifted away from his vision.
"I said I love you Scully. I love you, Scully." he kept repeating. " I love you. Scully....Scully....Scu..."
" Mulder!" Scully tapped his shoulder. "Wake up, sleeping beauty!"
Mulder opened his eyes, blinking at the light. "I....er...." he wailed. "Where....owww...my chest...my head....ooooeeeee...."
"Mulder, you were chasing a murder suspect when his partner shot you in the chest then hit you over the head with a brick. You have been in Intensive care for the last three days. This is the first day you've regained consciousness!" she explained.
"Oh. I didn't realize." he looked at her.
"That's OK, " she pushed a stray lock of hair out of his face." you must have had some dream or something because you were saying some weird stuff!!" He looked embarrassed and half smiled.
"Umm...yeah...I guess so..." he mumbled. Scully stood up promising to check back on him later. She left leaving a confused Mulder in bed.
"Hey, did ya get lucky with that fine vixen, Agent Scully, huh Mulder?" Frohike stepped out of the shadows.
"Yeah, I guess you could sorta say that..." he nodded.
"Well, it's about as close as we nerds will ever get, pal !!" Frohike laughed.
