Membership in Carpenter's Battery and the Sons of Confederate Veterans is open to all male descendants, at least 12 years of age, of those who served in the Confederate Army or Navy to the end of the war, or who died in prison or while in actual service, or who were killed in battle, or who were honorably discharged. This descent may be either lineal or collateral. You may join through your GG Grandfather (lineal) or a cousin or uncle (collateral).
Carpenter's Battery and the Virginia Division Sons of Confederate Veterans have a research assistant in Richmond, Virginia. If you know who your ancestor is we can obtain all the documentation needed for you to complete an application for membership. If your ancestor served from another state there are also research assistants in those states where we can get documentation.
Dues for membership are $40.00 for the first year. This covers a one time $5.00 registration fee the first year, $20.00 to International Headquarters, $3.00 to the Virginia Division and $12.00 to Carpenter's Battery. Total dues for successive years are set at $35.00 at this time.
As well as being a member of the most prestigious organization in the area you will receive a subscription to the "Confederate Veteran" magazine and to our camp newsletter. Both are very informative publications that deal with Civil War history and our on going struggle to defend the good names of our ancestors. You will also receive a very nice certificate suitable for framing, certifying your membership through your ancestor and listing the unit in which he served.
