Quick Facts 10/11/2004 One of our most active and passionate members recently had a near fatal automobile accident that currently has him paralyzed from the neck down. His name is Fred Merica and he has always been an active soul from a chemistry teacher, church member,to fellow comrade in the SCV.He is currenlty at UVA Medical Center and would no doubt welcome friendly letters and cards letting him know how much we all care that he returns to health soon and is appreciated for his support and fellowship .His family has arranged to have his mail forwarded, so please contact the Camp Commander by the email link on the first page to get info on how to send good wishes to our fallen friend. Let's face it. Due to an extremely successful PR campaign by the Federal Government that started during the Civil War, we and our children are taught that the South fought to preserve slavery and the North fought to abolish it. The North was good and the South was bad. Northerners should be proud and Southerners ashamed. Recently there have been others who have joined this effort of misinformation in an attempt to further their political ambitions and to line their pockets. The following is a list of facts that we hope will stimulate thought. Is it possible that what we've been taught about the Civil War might be wrong? Please read the following with an open mind. These are FACTS you probably weren't aware of until now. ************************************************************************ General Robert E. Lee CSA was not a slave owner and did not support the institution of slavery. General Ulysses S. Grant USA was a slave owner and did not free his slaves until the end of the war. The Southern States, through taxes and tariffs, made up approximately 70% of the federal budget and most of that money was spent in the north. |
