1. What is the official title for Article 33 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to elementary and secondary education?

The official title is the Georgia Special Needs Scholarship Act.

2. Under 20-2-2110, The General Assembly finds that Parents are best equipped to do what?

According to Senate Bill 10 the General Assembly believes that parents are best equipped to “to make decisions for their children, including the educational setting that will best serve the interests and educational needs of their children;” 

3. Would this bill start immediately next school year (2007-2008)?

Section 2 states that the Act “shall become effective upon its approval by the Governor or upon its becoming law without such approval and shall apply to the 2007-2008 school year and all school years subsequent thereto.”

4. Do private schools have to be accredited by the state to receive scholarship money?

Yes, or in the process of becoming accredited.

5. Does the bill only cover private school choice?

The parent may request and receive a scholarship for the student to enroll in and attend a participating private school.
