Summer is really here!!!! Though there were many days, even weeks when the term 'Global Warming' seemed to be a misnomer as snoflakes fell with our Spring rain. Cool temps slowed the bursting of colorful blooms. We checked out calendars daily to verify it was Spring and that we weren't trapped in Winter! Then the warmth of summer arrived and life seemed to be back in the right groove. It is a most welcome change, though somewhat less than perfect. After a long, harsh winter in this area, plants and trees gave up their lives, some almost did and some made it. The warmer temps began to bring out new growth shoots in seemingly dying foloage. Then came a warm-dry spell. The record here is 29 days for sun and dry, here where I live the record missed breaking by about 30 minutes. The dry spell put an end to many of the new growth starts. Though it seemed a huge loss at the time, now everything is beautiful. It seems that those bare spots have allowed more growth space for the survivors - and the result is a beautiful panorama of colors and textures. So if we, in our limited minds feel disappointed when the weather veers from the norm, would just be a ittle patient, we can marvel in the unveiling of a new plan. Hmmmm! |

My adventure this past year and a half continues in its up and down pattern. It is a challenge but interesting and rewarding. My circle of friends continues to grow. My good days are filled with fun, friendship, food and fellowship! My Quality of Life has changed, actually up a notch! My life style is dramatically curtailed, but more than adequate compensation for the limits that restrict my activities. My calendar is crowded with medical appointments - 2, 3 and sometimes 4 a week. But that still leaves time for some very special occasions. Perhaps not up to the level as before - but these are extra special to me. So - following is my event diary - and some dates I am excitedly looking forward to. These dates are my goals to reach - and I will! June 10th - My 13th Great Grandchild arrived in Spokane. Hunter James Wieneke. June 13th - Tony took me to a Harley Davidson Dealership to hear Whiskey Creek - my favorite Lynyrd Skynyrd Tribute Band. Plus I was able to window shop for a Harley. It never hurts to dream above and beyond! June 29th - July 1 - I took the ferry across Puget Sound to visit a few days with Vicki and Smitty - my very good friends, actually family after all these years. This was a real treat and meant a lot to me. July 8th - After the loss of almost all my hair, I asked Lisa to shave the rest. After the chore was completed, she stated that I looked good as a baldy?? Apparently my head is shaped correctly, no flat side or pointed top, or noticeable dents. I am prepared with wigs, hats, scarves and jewelry and soon will post some pics to request oponions of which look I should adopt. After all, will be for at least another 6 months! LOOKING AHEAD --- July 14th - Bill and Robin celebrate their 30th Wedding Anniversary. This is a milestone not reached by many these days - so Many Congratulations to them. August 3rd - Bill celebrates his 50th birthday - May he enjoy another 50!!! Aug 12th to 15th - Vicki and Smitty will be taking me on a camping excursion to LaConner north of here on salt water. This is one of my favorite areas so am looking forward to this get-a-way with them. August 22nd - My California cousins - Judy, Dick and Stephen - will be in Seattle. They are going on an Alaska Cruise the 23rd to 30th, so are coming a few days before to visit. A BBQ in Lisa's back yard is planned for the 22nd and we look forward to seeing family and friends at the get together. Of course the Fall ahs the Holidays and they are aklways a bright spot to look forward to. Beyond that - possibly in Febreuary a major event is scheduled. My 14th Great Grandchild will arrive - to Bill, Jr. and Jennifer Lindelof in Spokane. So - I have much to look forward to. |
Some suggestions for when you are discouraged, disappointed, depressed - down in the dumps - Take some time for FUN! --> Read: 'The Little Engine That Could' and repeat - 'I think I can', I know I can' - 'I knew I could'. ----> Listen to a recording, sing a long - say the words to - High Hopes - Frank Sinatra On the Sunny Side of the Street - Louis Armstrong. If you aren't familiar with these choices - the words are listed below. |
HIGH HOPES Next time your found, with your chin on the ground There's a lot to be learned, so look around Just what makes that little old ant Think he'll move that rubber tree plant Anyone knows an ant, can't Move a rubber tree plant. But he's got high hopes, he's got high hopes He's got high apple pie in the sky hopes Ao any time your gettin' low 'Stead of lettin go Just remember that ant Oops there goes another rubber tree plant. When troubles call, and your back's to the wall There's a lot to be learned, that wall could fall. Once there was a silly old ram Thought he'd punch a hole in a dam No one could make that ram, scram He kept buttin' that dam. 'Cause he had high hopes, he had high hopes He had high apple pie in the sky hopes. So anytime your feelin' bad 'Stead of feeling sad Just remember that ram Oops there goes a billion kilowatt dam. All problems just a toy balloon They'll be bursted soon They're just bound to go pop Oops there goes another problem kerplop. |
ON THE SUNNY SIDE OF THE STREET Grab your coat and get your hat Leave your worries on the doorstep Life can be so sweet On the sunny side of the street. Can't you hear the pitter-pat And that happy tune is your step Life can be complete On the sunny side of the street. I used to walk in the shade with my blues on parade, But I'm not afraid...this rover's crossed over If I never had a cent I'd be rich as Rockefeler Gold dust at my feet On the sunny side of the street. I used to walk in the shade with them blues on parade Now UI'm not afraid...this rover's crossed over Now if I never made one cent I'll still be rich as Rockefeller There will be gold dust at my feet On the sunny, sunny side of the street. |
