This is a Family Friendly website.
Sean has had a long hard struggle, beginning with his being a "micropreemie" born at 25 weeks gestation, weighing only 1 pound 6 ounces (650 grams). Sean spent 81 days in NICU. During that time he started out on a ventilator, moved to c-pap, and finally a cannula. He also had to have hernia surgery at 6 weeks of age (31 weeks gestation).
Sean came home to us on Sunday, May 4, 1998. He came home with an NG-tube (for feedings), an apnea monitor, oxygen, and an oxygen monitor. The NG-tube he pulled out himself after about 2 weeks. He continued to feed well and gain weight, so it was left out. The apnea monitor was kept for several months. He stayed on oxygen for a year at home, and we still have the oxygen monitor, for those "just in case" times. He spent his first year home in the hospital every 6 weeks with pneumonia and other respiratory illnesses. This second year has been much better. He was in the hospital with pneumonia in October 1999, and not at all since then.
