The slide show is of Hudson Bay Slough. The pictures are taken in winter after the ducks have all flown. There are some opportunitys in the winter months for x-country skiing. Winters have been a little warm the last few years in Prince George so the ice can be a little thin in places. In spring, summer and fall, ducks occupy the swamp in large numbers. Hudson Bay Slough was developed by Ducks Unlimited Canada. A river heritage trail runs along one side and it is an excellent path to view the swamp from. The rest of the swamp borders the hood and Queensway Street. There is an old farm property across from the walking trail along with a trailer park. The area Hudson Bay Slough occupies is also referred to as the Buffer or Buffer Zone. The swamp is fed from sewer rainwater run off. A large fountain runs in the summer to aerate the largest open water area located near Queensway Street. Hundreds of ducks can be seen living in the slough. Most are Mallards and wood ducks. There is a large amount of shallow water and built up earthen mounds covered in reeds for nesting. There are also a lot of fat cats living nearby in the neighbor hood. They can be seen going to and from on hunting missions. I highly suspect baby duck on the menue. Blackbirds fly about in large flocks during the fall. There are many seasonal color changes to observe with variety of foliage in and surrounding the swamp. |
