Holy Year Pilgrimage

(April 8, 2000)

On Saturday, April 8, at 6 a.m. some three hundred people set out from Holy Family Parish for the eight mile pilgrimage to St. James Cathedral. Our route included Delridge Way, then across the lower bridge over the Duwamish River, the pedestrian path along Marginal Way, finally up Marion St. to the Cathedral on Ninth Avenue. Fr. Manuel Ocana, Srs. Diana and Magdalena accompanied the group. The Sisters led us in the way of the cross at different stations along the way. Fr. Michael Ryan, Rector of St. James, met us at the Cathedral steps at about 10:15 a.m. He gave us an explanation of the Jubilee Doors which were opened special for our group. After saying the prescribed prayers for the Jubilee Indulgence (Creed, Our Father and Hail Mary plus prayers for intentions of Holy Father) we celebrated Mass in the Lady Chapel of the Cathedral. Next we followed the self guided tour - the Pilgrim Way of St. James - and had lunch together in the Cathedral Hall.
