Navajo Fried Bread |
4 c. flour 1 Tbsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 2 Tbsp. powdered milk 1 ½ c. warm water 1 c. shortening In large pot, mix flour, baking powder, salt, and powdered milk. Pour in warm water and mix to form dough. Knead by hand until dough is soft but not sticky. Cover and let stand 15 minutes. Shape into balls about 2 inches in diameter, then flatten by patting and stretching dough until it is flat and round. Heat shortening in large skillet, and fry bread until golden brown. |
