| Formed in 1998 to help Open Stage Theatre celebrate Mardi Gras, the All-Stars have celebrated Carnival and the musical heritage of Louisiana for 9 years and counting! The band members have played with some of Pittsburgh's finest jazz, blues and rock acts including The Pawnbrokers, Boss Diablo, The Usual Suspects, Sandoz, Fungus, Art Ensemble of Valhalla, Don Aliquo Sr.,The Sleaze, Soul Village, the Awakening Ritual, Bob Beach Blues Band, Perna Madge & Schmidt, Mon Gumbo (Pittsburgh's other Louisiana-style party band) the Groove Injectors, the Blue Bombers, and more. Guests with the band have included saxophonists Craig Madge, Mike Sakash, Dave Turner, Eric DeFade, and Robbie Klein, drummer John Schmidt, percussionist Erich Branthoover and some guy named Elvis. This year we will be joined by the Accelerator Horns: Greg Eggert (trumpet) and Alan Baum (tenor sax) from Johnny B. and the Accelerators. In addition to the band's funky originals, the set list includes material from New Orleans' past and present legends like The Neville Brothers, The Meters, Dr. John, Professor Longhair, James Booker III, the subdudes, Huey "Piano" Smith, Galactic, Sonny Landreth, Harry Connick Jr. and Earl King. The Second Line Mardi Gras All-Stars appeared twice at the New Orleans Cajun Festival at the Amphitheatre at Station Square opening for Terrance Simien. and Buckwheat Zydeco |
