Trends in Non-Linear Thinking

At the turn of the century, we are struggling to reconcile ideas that predate our culturally diverse and eco-conscious global community.  Our old hierarchies — sexism, anthropocentrism, racism, etc. — are being re-examined.  Absolute authority is questioned in government, business, and social custom.  Everything from personal identity to global economies are caught in the fluctuation of this change in our worldview—in the midst of this Paradigm Shift.

You might say an archetypal re-mapping of our collective mind is underway.   Our perceptions of Self, Other, and the thread that links the two, are decentralizing — but paradoxically they are becoming more tangible as we explore the human role in ecology, cognition, and chaos.

The surfacing of this non-linear paradigm has been anticipated and studied by scientific visionaries of the 20th century.  Only recently have their theories come together in best-selling books, emerging college programs, and publication on the World Wide Web — the quintessential communications medium of this new culture.

Here I hope to provide a synthesis in progress—an introduction to material I have found in print and within the flux of online media.  Use it as a stepping stone, merely a knot in a much larger net . . .
